It's funny, I've not used live but a few sparse times since the outage, and even bought an $80 (for $190 too!).

Yet I'd normally have been on live for ages.

" If I was just a SOE user I would be furious. The PSN went down and Sony waited to tell us anything then dropped a bomb on us. They told those folks everything was fine and there was nothing to worry about.

How has Sony's PR gotten this bad in 5 years? Seriously they were on top of the world for two generations and now in the eyes of the consumer they look more like the Three Stooges than a former leader of the industry.
"
"in the past five years"

Not to sound troll-like, but weren't we all mocking how bad their PR was five years ago? I mean, RIIIIIIDGE RACER/Giant Enemy Crab and all that?

I assume you mean that they were good before THAT.

I guess you shouldn't play on 360 either cause a few years ago XBL was down for over a week. Not to mention it's been open to hacking since it launched.

This.  All of the over-reacting sony fans claiming they'll "jump ship" need to sit down with a taste of reality for a second.

Good to see that there's no speedtree.

But what about SpeedDragon?

I've been a huge fan of the burnout series for some time now, really glad to see that we'll (likely) be getting another one in the near future.  That's not to say I didn't like they way Criterion handled NFS, I could have definitely gotten behind the Need For Speed series if it had become their new thing.

That being said, I'm curious if they'll do another open world burnout game or not, they made a few interesting decisions with Paradise (crash mode being "absent" was about my only issue), I'd definitely like to see that experience refined, perhaps with a bit more focus on, well, focusing the races.  Not sure I can speak for anyone else, but it often became a tad bit difficult to determine the correct path at time (even with the visual aid of a blinker and street sign.). Also, I found that races tended to end up feeling a bit lonesome as I seldom would stay in the pack of other racers very long before blazing my own trail, or just outpacing them altogether.

(Who else wants DJ Atomica to return? Loved him in SSX, Loved him in Burnout)

EDIT: Considering the name, I'd REALLY love to see an open world burnout game with a dedicated crash event mode ala a Tony Hawk game. Start the event, and a predetermined course appears.

I agree, an MMO without a rigid structure and more fluid player-world interactions is where the genre needs to go.  Player driven conflict and story telling is generally more interesting than a crummy, slow combat system that leads to on generic, boring quests, until you're high enough a level to do the same thing with a group of people.

The most fun part of MMOs, it seems, is that they are glorified chat rooms that let you be someone else in another world.

Interesting and good turn of events. Though this post went in a direction far lighter than I had anticipated, what with that build up.
