I loved the original game. Put hundreds of hours into it and got all the achievements. It's one of my favorite multiplayer experiences ever.

I'm really disappointed by what I've played so far of the new game. The modes, maps, movement, mechanics, etc. are all a pretty massive step down from what was previously a near-perfect game. The fast, fluid, and frantic gameplay of the original seems to of been abandoned. I'm really confused and bummed out by the choices they've made. This just went from my most anticipated game of the year to considering cancelling my pre-order. :/

I've played a ton of the single player so far and haven't really experienced any major problems (other than the "Annual" achievement not popping for some reason, which was pretty frustrating) and have been loving it. Hopefully they fix the mp for the people that care about it soon.

Got into a few matches (and did horribly). New maps look amazing though. Will work my way through the campaigns until it's fixed.

I've never been driven from my home. Because I'm a guy.

Not entirely related, but you mentioned awhile ago about doing a piece on "swatting," if I remember correctly. Is that something you're still going to do?

No one should have to deal with death threats/having their personal information posted online, but having armed police swarm your home seems way more dangerous/scary, IMO. The Internet is an awful shitty place for guys too.

(not trying to downplay what people have had to deal with, but I still think it's an issue that needs to be discussed more)

Did it bum out the GB staff that there weren't more people coming to their defense when they were being labeled sexists/racists/whatever for hiring Dan? There seemed to be a lot of uncalled for hate directed their way, without a lot of people stepping up defend them.

The whole "gamergate" thing and the outrage of GB hiring "another" white male seem to start around the same time and probably are somewhat linked in a way (since I doubt gg really has anything to do with "ethics").

In the end, GG seems like a hate movement that's co-opted video games to push an agenda. In the same way a lot of "feminists" are co-opting the medium to push their agenda too, which sometimes results in misguided shit like attacking GB for their staff decisions. Makes it hard to really sympathize with either side (obviously threats are never right). So I guess I'll go back to playing video games.

Disturbing situation and she should respond to it however she's comfortable, but I'd imagine the cross-section of people with legal concealed carry permits that are also 13 year old Internet trolls isn't particularly high.

Not sure if it was a glitch or not, but Shadowrun for 360 was free with Gold today too.

This whole situation comes off to me as people taking legitimate issues present in the video game industry (and society as a whole) that need to be discussed...and then forcing those issues onto a situation where it doesn't really apply as a way to spark a conversation.

Obviously it'd be better if the industry as a whole were more diverse, but making this be their call to arms is rather absurd to me, and a little disturbing considering they're basically shitting on two innocent people in the hopes to draw more attention to their cause. Just because it might be a worthwhile cause doesn't make that any less shitty. Pick more worthy targets. There's plenty of options.

Maybe I'm naive, but I trust that the GB staff chose two people that they honestly felt were the best fits. I'm sure they'll do great. That's enough for me.

I would never suggest Dan or Jason don't deserve the position or aren't cool dudes. That's not even my assessment to really make. I believe a female presence, or other perspectives brought from people with different racial, religious or sexual orientations would be a very welcome and I could argue necessary addition to the site!

I find that to be a weird way to look at it. Obviously race/religion/sex are going to factor into a person's perspective and how they perceive a game, but so will countless other factors. All of our life experiences shape who we are and our outlook on things and what we enjoy. So you don't need a "diverse" staff to succeed in having a diverse view on games. So I don't think it's "necessary" at all. Sure it'd be nice (as long as the people were good at their job), but it'd also be nice if the industry as a whole were more diverse.

Putting the impetus on this small group of ~10 people to change the industry isn't really fair. Which is why I said it just comes off as forcing the issue in this case.

So yeah, GB is ~10 people and they're all white men. The industry is predominantly white men. So I don't really see the GB thing as a shock or an outrage, considering they're all good at their jobs. There's plenty of other sites that have a lot of really untalented male (and female) writers where it's questionable why they have a job. Why not make that be the issue?
