Just had multiple people in my close orbit get COVID despite being careful for a long time. Seeing Tam and Jan coming back from an in-person event and Tam having a nagging cough has me stressing out. It seems like an inevitability in many respects, but still hate to see it. Hope you're fine @tamoor.
@kamasamak: Yeah, he said $80,000/year for 4-5 guys = $400,000/year. If he devoted $100M of his money to just this, it would take 250 years to run out of money. Meanwhile if managed properly, he and his heirs would never have to work their entire lives thanks to the other $900M.
I interviewed to work at Epic about 10 years ago. I was contacted out of the blue by a recruiter, I had no idea who they were and I have no idea why they got in touch with me specifically. I have social media accounts but I'm not especially active. It was a pretty weird experience, several remote interviews (I don't live in Wisconsin), "personality tests" to see if I'd fit in, etc. As someone else commented, they touted their paid vacations and if I remember correctly there's a lengthy "sabbatical" option after a certain period of time, too. Seeing Jess's video and photos as well as some of the comments here, maybe it's good I didn't get the job. Vacations are great, but being worked into the ground to earn them sort of takes the fun out of it. I'd rather tread water than be almost drowned, no matter how great the gasps of air are.
@funkadoodle: per your question on FOMO. Jeff's meditation advice is great.
If commiseration makes you feel better, I broke to the hype earlier this week and bought Elden Ring, only to immediately feel less compelled to play it once the purchase was made. The brain is a weird thing! I have since played it, I'm really enjoying it, and it wasn't a major expense for me, but if I'm being honest there was nothing that said I had to buy it other than FOMO.
