The iPad one should be getting subtitles as soon as I get to it (and get back from my short holiday) - I'll have to look into how to make it work though as all the subtitles are in .vbt format and I don't think Appcelerator (the prog I'm using for the iPad version) understands that format. It should be added though, also apparently there's a bug with the iPad clues system, which is really very annoying because the code is virtually identical to the Steam version, but I'll have to fix that too!

I just have to say again - this community is fantastic!! I know I'm biased but hey, honestly! Thanks again for all this brilliant support and confirmation of my stupid game, it is so very much appreciated.

I was thinking about this forum today (while wandering around Wales, fretting, with no internet connection) and thinking how everyone 'gets' the tone we were after with this - I was wondering, is this a British thing? I mean, the idea from the start was that it would have a Hammer sort of vibe, i.e., being OTT but never doing that thing of giving a nod and wink to the viewer as if to say 'hey we know you know it's crazy!' which I really hate because I think it ruins the whole thing - but what I was wondering was, surely this was what Hammer were thinking even back then too? I mean, who on those films - the director, screenwriter, actors, etc - were actually taking it deadly seriously?! I mean, how could you?!! Just thinking out loud... :)

I've been so busy I haven't been back to look on the site, just spotted this thread!! Yes, Great Budworth doesn't include either the Atlas building (the mansion house in St Helens) or the woods, which were filmed near Mawdsley here: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@53.6357696,-2.8360484,904m/data=!3m1!1e3 - long way from Great Budworth! We found that location when we were thinking of shooting the whole thing in a place called Newburgh which is not too far away - https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@53.58571,-2.781729,3a,75y,22.46h,71.64t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sW-aC12bG3_Cpg0sqVzLtuQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

We actually got permission to shoot in the Red Lion pub there, but eventually switched to Great Budworth as it was a more compact and self-contained location. However in the process I had to rewrite much of how the script was originally planned - the pub was supposed to be a central location and was actually an Inn with a number of upstairs rooms. There were several physical puzzles you had to solve, such as lights you had to turn on or off at the right time which did things like illuminate the courtyard, plus there were scenes with people appearing in rooms and at one point a workman appearing and being unable to fix a window - I think you had to do something like move a ladder outside, which allowed him to climb up and fix the window outside, then you'd find he'd left the room door open, which allowed access to a cupboard containing the car photos. Also in an early draft of the script the Inn was where both Ryan and Emma Bowman lived; Emma was staying at the Inn in one of the rooms, while Ryan was living there with Rebecca!

Anyway, I waffle...

Thank you again for all these really great comments and encouragement, it really makes a massive difference and you should know they're very, very much appreciated.

thepullquotes - Android is a real possibility, I wanted to do it but I ran into video playback problems, but if I can pin down which tablets it works properly on and why then I'll be able to do it, it's certainly possible as the iPad version was created with Titanium Appcelerator, which also ports to Android. Nasar7 & TAFAE - an iPhone version is possible, but I'd have to seriously redesign the interface first!

MechaKirby - I think the exposure Giant Bomb have given the game is priceless, I have nothing bad to say about it!!

MechaMarshmallo - Rupert IS Jenks!! He definitely hammed up his performance for this but he's 100% Jenks really! That's Rupert's hat too, he just turned up with it on the first day of shooting so we stuck with it! You can see him (and me and John) in Tim Leftwich's channel very soon - https://www.youtube.com/user/timleftwich - we did an interview for his channel this afternoon.

BlackLagoon & Chaser324 - this is VERY interesting news, definitely something I'll follow up - thank you!! I'd never even considered this actually, but certainly if it's possible I'll do it.

Retris - ah, Puzznic!! Fond memories, etc, etc... Hope the C64 gets a relaunch like the ZX Spectrum!

Thanks again for all the support. Happy days!!

MuftyRiots that's fantastic!! We live walking distance away from each other then, how bizarre is that?!! Next time you're in the Windle Island Starbucks you can say hello and make me feel famous!

johnnymcginley Yes Midsomer Murders was definitely an influence, we even approached John Nettles to play the chief but his agent turned us down! Taggert however... maybe a Wicker Man Scottish location would be good for the sequel!

Thank you again all you nice people here!!

uberTaco - I'm struggling with the Linux version because I need to install a fresh copy onto a PC to do it, I've tried running from a USB stick but the permissions are all screwed up so it doesn't work - theoretically it should be easy, I just need to get a laptop I can format and install it on, which I haven't got at the mo - penniless devs, can't even afford an old laptop... :) I'm trying to get it sorted though.

To 'explain' the controls - it was all designed for the Amazon TV box, basically - yes that doesn't make any sense I know, but that's where the interface came from and I had to abandon it in the end, but I decided to stick with something that'd work with the controller, and obviously completely failed at it - I should have reverted back to my original PC design which was all point and click, but I was also desperate to release it and just ran out of time with it, so I had to stick with it. However... If anyone has any suggestions for a complete redesign I'll try and do it (though it's probably a bit late now!) - probably the iPad interface is more intuitive!

Libb - I would definitely have to get a 'real' programmer in to do an xbox one or ps4 version and it'd have to be rewritten from scratch, so I doubt it'd be possible unfortunately. Might be worth contacting someone though, give them a big cut of the version they make etc.

Hi - just thought I'd say thank you to Giant Bomb for totally getting my crazy game and for all the nice things people are saying! And the bad things. (Especially the bad things.)

To put it in perspective - the script we all worked from was still called 'demo script' up until almost we started shooting, I always planned to make a cheap demo first, then see what was wrong with it, try and fix it and turn it into a 'proper' game, but filming it and making it was just so much f..ing work I realised early on I'd have to go for it, but with practically no budget I had to ditch a ton of things I wanted in it and relegate them to 'the sequel' - so if I do get to make another one it'll hopefully be a ton better! Still won't take itself seriously though...

So yes it's full of 'quirks' (i.e, enormous bugs) both in the script and God knows in the programming, but I had to teach myself to program to make this (it's a Node-Webkit / Javascript game) so any real programmer would laugh / cry at the coding. But my goal was to make something entertaining and stupid and definitely not taking itself seriously, so thanks Giant Bomb and everyone else for 'getting' that!!
