I started watching Parasyte. I was initially apprehensive due to not giving a shit about horror but it's really good. Shinichi needs to learn to stop yelling things in public.

Xenogears. It's pretty much exactly what you want. Also the main line Shin Megami Tensei games, specifically 3 and 4.

@awesomeusername: I would recommend the new versions of both those, Crystal and Crowds, before Saint Seiya.
