Find a couple farms and build up your Alchemy skill.
Seriously, most underrated skill in the game lol.
Then, with all those early Restore Fatigue potions, you can sell them one by one (has a patch fixed that?  I can't remember) to merchants to increase your Mercantile skill quickly. :]

I use it extensively to organize my loot.
I have rooms filled with stuff so that my framerate drops to about 5fps lol.
Yeah, I'm a hoarder.

Those things are definitely a pain in the ass, but in my opinion GTA IV is a serious step forward.

One more important thing I forgot to mention:
I read that the glitch happens ONLY when you've already completed the main quest (did you?) and then try to do the Vampire Cure quest.

If this is the case, it might be worth it to intentionally contract Porphyric Hemophilia and become a full-fledged vampire before you complete the main quest, so you can do the Vampire Cure quest.  This means you will never become a vampire again.  You can still get Porphyric Hemophilia but you will never turn in to a vampire, no matter how many days you keep the disease.

Yeah, currently there is no way around this besides renting a non-GoTY edition disc.

I'm sorry. :/

It is fairly easy to cure it before you fully become a vampire though, as long as you know these three things:  You only get it from fighting a vampire, you can cure it with any Cure Disease spell or potion, and you can check to see if you have the Porphyric Hemophilia disease in your permanent effects tab.
That said, after every time you've fought a vampire (or every few days) check the permanent effects tab and see if it lists Porphyric Hemophilia, and if it does use a Cure Disease spell or potion or visit any shrine in a temple to become cured (within three days).
I've given more info on Resist Disease and Cure Disease effects in my help topic, so check there for more information.
