So they're doing an event at 4AM JST, 2-3 hour stream before UPF I imagine.

@symbyosys: I'd recommend calling the store the evening before and talking to a manager, I've usually had good luck securing systems that way without preorders.

@frostyryan: I think the rumored Undertale and Rocket League would be E3 level announcements to be honest - Undertale could potentially be console exclusive to the Switch.

The real question is how much this support will extend past 2017.

That's an excellent question. I think it depends on whether or not the Switch becomes Nintendo's next handheld as well as its next console. If it is the successor to BOTH the 3DS and Wii U then I think it has a real shot, if it is just seen as the successor to the Wii U, then I'm more skeptical of its long-term viability.

I think it's most definitely a successor to both, Nintendo is just hedging their bets like they did with the DS. Leading up to the launch of the DS - they kept on iterating that it was a third pillar alongside the GBA and Gamecube - but we all know how that ended up.

Not saying that the Switch will be a success on the same level as the DS - but Nintendo has a history of spinning this kind of spiel, and I don't really see much support for 3DS beyond this year if the Switch is anything but a complete failure.

As many people have said before me, everything about the Switch is pointing to a soft launch. Launching at $299 during a shopping low season, with a very limited lineup of games (from third parties in particular) and with an unusually short marketing period. I don't think they're going to go for artificial scarcity per se, but I think it'll be hard to find a Switch in the first half of the year. They'll see how the core audience adopts the system, and then coming into the fall, they'll do whatever adjustments they need to do (whether it's price, bundled software etc.) and go for a full-on marketing blitz leading up to the holidays.

I think the fact their online service isn't in place until later this year is a telltale sign that they're launching Switch a bit earlier than they had intended to.

@colourful_hippie: Yeah, I was thinking of it - might require a bit more joystick dexterity though. It looks like an interesting game regardless though!

@naoiko: It's been confirmed that it's 30FPS which is disappointing. I definitely wouldn't preorder, but hopefully it ends up being something worth playing.

@ripelivejam: 3DS launch lineup was massive, 16 games IIRC. Ghost Recon was the only real standout IMO.

@matatat: 1-2-Switch is my "girlfriend" game for the system. I think she'll love it more than I, and will help justify my purchase to her I think. She's not really a traditional gamer, so it'll be nice to have something to play together.

I think it'll be incredibly hard to find here in Tokyo in the first 3 months. PS4 Pro is still impossible to find at retail, and it only pops up online for 5 minutes at a time. I think Nintendo will focus more of the launch inventory on the US, and let supply trickle out in Japan.
