Whenever I get a new Horizon, I alway try to fill out my roster of dream cars (Mazda RX-7 Spirit R, KPGC10 Skyline 2000GT R, Honda NSX-R, E30 M3) and get a sense of how Playground tried to replicate their distinct driving “feel” in-game, especially since I’ll never be able to drive any of those in real life. And while I can’t get into the dryness of Motorsport, I’ve always felt Horizon was a perfect compromise for gearhead fantasies mixed with the FUN that can only be had from racing in a video game. I’m sure Cruisn’ will be fun, but I doubt it will have a car roster, or even driving physics that would come close to competing with what is, already my ideal racing video game franchise.

I just want to hear those three give their thoughts on Hitman 3 in some sort of GOTY discussion cast. Want to finish this triology’s ride with their full (than was said in Bomb/Beastcast) thoughts on the finale. I know I’ll get to hear Ryckert discuss it with Mahardy so I’m gonna chalk this whole thing up as a positive.

I kicked off my pandemic year in Dec of 2019 when my dog of four years died. It all happened while I had GOTY ‘19 on in the background... and then the pandemic hit 3 months later and those guys were there every day... I just can’t put into words what comfort these guys brought during some pretty hard times. I know it had nothing to do with nothing, but I’m thankful they’re taking off just as lockdown seems to be subsiding. Grateful to the team, both those staying and those leaving.

I honestly thought it was a clever emoji for tearing up eyelids like you’d see on faces of characters in distress in anime. Go figure...

I came at a pivot point as well. Austin had been gone about a year, Drew was just about to and Abby showed up 5 or 6 months into my first sub. Every crew member that comes through the door has shined (and even those I had to go back and watch). I caught the end of Abby’s stream the night of the news and found it oddly comforting in a circle-closed sort of way to see her beating the last boss in Dark Souls since Vinny was the first person I ever watched play any of those games. These 3 will be missed by individual members of the community for various reasons and to varying degrees, but everyone that’s left has merited a viking funeral (of sorts) and the community as a whole will heal and move on. I’ll definitely be throwing in for one of those hideous neon colored Beastcast shirts.

I really enjoy how IO tries to change up the formula just enough in some of these maps post 2016's reboot. Not gonna spoil anything here, but it's also for the most part, not anything wildly different from what they attempted in the Gen 1 Hitman days. All of these levels are sendups to various Hitman missions and maps of old so there's only so much leverage they have in moving outside of the prescribed formula that works so well for this franchise.

Shooting and stealth are serviceable. Exploring and moving around the world feels like exactly what Jeff said: GTA3 feeling open world. CDPR did nothing to justify this being an open world, save for the 8 million preorders they banked from marketing said open world.

Hitman 3 all the way, with honorable mention to Deathloop.

13 or so hours in, invested in a stealth build and I am blown away with how much this feels like a far cry game (moment to moment stealth and combat with a pretty copy/paste feeling throughout), except traversing across the city is boring (mafia-level driving) and just about zero immergent moments as I make my way around the city.

The presentation is top notch - it reminds me of Bioshock in that it never takes you out of the first person camera, even for cutscenes, which is cool. But of course, that’s if there are no bugs going on. Had a pretty dramatic scene toward end of Act 1 turn hilarious when a character’s head suddenly had his gun clipping through it. He goes to give me a chip out of his head to put in mine, and the gun was in his hand instead. So naturally, he puts the gun in my head, which clipped through my face since it’s in first person and the gun being bigger than a neural chip.

So far, I feel pretty underwhelmed by it all.
