Also recommend Opry Country Classics, which (in normal times) they do every Thursday night. It's a mix of old classic artists and new artists that play in the classic style. There are years worth on their Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/user-971423658
(The last episode before the pandemic was March 12, and then continuing back every Thursday before that.)
Love Orville Peck. Was lucky enough to see him live. Can't recommend him enough.
As the "Deirdre from Toronto" who writes in to the podcasts occasionally, I appreciate @ybbaaabby's town mandate, "Deirdre rules, so be nice to her, ok"
I know it's not a vote or anything, but I wanted to counter a lot of the comments and say I like and appreciate this format. I'm one of those people who doesn't care about spoilers, so GOTY every year is primarily a way for me to hear them talk frankly and openly about games I missed so I know what to go back to during the long winter.
The new format means they cover far more games before digging in to the ones that really matter to them. Since no one can play every game in a year, I'm sure it's also useful for staff who didn't play a game to find out what mattered about the ones they miss. GOTY was always about recording the deliberations, and they're starting even earlier in the process now.
(Also I have a long drive to/from family for Christmas, so more audio more better for me.)
I gave this a shot last weekend during the free weekend, after how much @alex has talked about it, and...wow, he's right, he's so right. Honestly I didn't think I'd love it like I do. But there's something just truly wonderful about chilling and driving the west coast, or the southwestern deserts. The game is just so well made, those parts of America are so lovingly rendered (I drove Portland-Seattle like a thousand times when I lived out there for school, and I-5 just...feels so right in this game), and you put on Big Rig FM and watch the miles fly away.
Thanks, Alex, for introducing this to us. I bought the whole thing and am hooked.
Puzzle Quest got me to get a DS. Circa 2007 I was working at Sakuracon in Seattle, and everyone was doing pick-up matches of Puzzle Quest all over the con floor. So glad I got into that; I did a couple other cons that year (including PAX) and played so, so much Puzzle Quest.
"We're just under a month until that date [renewing Nintendo Switch Online] rolls up on us, so I guess that's still time to announce Super Nintendo games. That could be a Direct. That could be an email goes out Monday morning like, hey we're having a direct on Wednesday, and Wednesday comes around and here's Super NIntendo."
