Necroposting this to suggest covering Cut the Crap by the Clash. One of the greatest and most influential bands of all time released an absolute turd at the end of their run, and it is fascinatingly terrible.

I will always associate American Idiot by Green Day and From under the Cork tree by Fall Out Boy with vanilla World of Warcraft. I spent a ton of time listening to both of those albums when it first launched.

Additionally, a lot of my high school Halo LAN parties were soundtracked by Toxicity by System of a Down, and Hybrid Theory by Linkin Park, so those as well.

Punk rock in all its many variations, and then Post Punk/New Wave, and Alternative. Hip hop and Post Hardcore round out the top 5.

Father of all Motherfuckers by Green Day. I'm a Green Day apologist up to a point (I think everything 21st century Breakdown and earlier is good to great), but FoAM is a truly atrocious record, and i'm not sure what they were even trying to do.

Breath of the Wild wins for me, as its my favorite game of all time. Then Mass effect 2, RDR2, What Remains of Edith Finch, and Mario Odyssey.

I don't think it will end for a very long time. I full expect to have a yearly covid booster shot every year like i do every autumn for the Flu. If we're able to get somewhat back to normalcy that will be absolutely worth it in my eyes.

New Pokemon snap! Its a super pleasant change of pace from most games that come out nowadays. You know that noise that Jeff and Brad make whenever they talk about Viva Pinata? Thats what this game is for me at this point. You can make whatever value argument you want to with it, but having this super nice thing to play after a rough day of work is worth the 60 bucks to me. Its also my GOTY so far probably, more than likely due to the relative dearth of games, but hey, I still greatly enjoy it!

I guess I'd say i disagree, but only in the case of Game Pass for console. I find all the other services mediocre at best. The Xbox version of game pass is overflowing with high quality games, and it seems like for every good game that gets taken off, two more get added. The addition of getting to try games like Outriders that i may not have wanted to plop down 60 bucks for, but ended up putting serious time into, is just a bonus.

At this point, with the first party MS releases, random day one drops (The Show, Outriders), and all the games that get added down the line after release, the value proposition is just nuts.

Keep in mind, this is someone using GP ultimate on a series X, so your mileage may vary, I understand the PC version of game pass does have its own issues.

i've beaten three games that came out this year and I'd go Genesis Noir, Bowser's Fury, and the Medium in that order. The most excited i am for anything this year is an expansion to a 17 year old MMO and the Mass Effect remaster. Something will inevitably show up on steam or Game pass and blow me away, much like Hades did last year, or at least i really hope so.

I'm playing WoW classic, and while it has its issues, you can see why WoW was the dominant force it was for so long. If you didn't come up with those old MMO's, its probably going to be a hard sell, but its relative simplicity is one of its selling points in my opinion, especially in comparison to what it ended up mutating into in its current form.

I'd recommend anyone who wants to get into it waits until the Burning Crusade pre-patch, as that should have a massive influx of players back into it, and TBC is in my opinion probably the gold standard of Classic WoW design, with a ton of the rough edges sanded off of vanilla WoW, but not dumbed down to the point of current WoW. The next expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, is considered by many the best Blizzard ever made, so i'll probably be playing this on and off for the next few years, but i'm never truly going to no-life it like i did last year. The whole pandemic thing made it way easier, as it was probably the closest thing i had to a social life.

I've thought about giving FF14 a shot for a few years now, but never did. Just not a fan of FF character design in general, i've always preferred WoW's kinda cartoony/stylized designs. Say what you will about current Blizz, but they still bring it in the art design department. Some of the zones in Shadowlands were stunning.
