On both this weeks Bombcast and Monday's Waypoint Radio, the hosts were getting excited about all of the possible things people could make with the in-depth tool set, and Media Molecule was apparently saying things like "we want people to be able to make games in Dreams". I just don't get. Both who is this for and, why anyone is excited about it?

If the tools are good enough then they just made a version of Unity where the creations are locked inside a console game. I just don't see why anyone would want to spend the time making an entire game in Dreams when the tools and distribution are already simple on PC.

There is nothing inherently wrong with wanting to know how much "stuff" there is in a game. The problem is that no standard exists for measuring it. Is Assassin's Creed: Origins 30hrs to see credits or 80hrs to do all of side stuff? What about Crusader Kings 2? Or Rocket League? There are also plenty of games where the price per hour metric is useless.

The only reason people think this year is "off" is because the last two years were filled with so many notable games. If you look at the games released so far this year as well the stuff we know is getting released latter this year you might be surprised. It's just that most of the notable titles released so far have been easy to miss if your not already a fan of their genre.

Here are the hottest of takes

  • Chrono Trigger is a bad game
  • Bloodborne is extremely overrated and is the worst of the recent From games
  • Yoshi's island is the best Mario platformer (2d or 3d)

  • Microsoft will have a new Fable game from Playground and somehow more Crackdown 3 footage without a release date.
  • Nintendo will have a lot of Smash a couple of trailers for games that for some reason are 3DS exclusives, and a Metroid trailer. They will also announce Retro is making another DK Country game.
  • The only Star Wars on the EA stage will be a half-harted "apology" for Battlefront 2 and the phrase "we will do right by the fans next time"
  • Square will have a bunch of trailers but, nothing major coming out this year other than Tomb Raider. FF7 (original version) will come to Switch soon.
  • We will also see, a new RPG from Bethesda proper (won't be Elder Scrolls) as well as teaser for whatever ID is doing next (assuming it is another DOOM)
  • Sony will spend alot of time on VR and, (my only non cynical prediction) Vita 2 (or whatever they call it).
  • Boarderlands 3, Cyberpunk 2077, Read Dead 3, Rocksteady's new game and, A new game from Avalanche studios (the Just Cause ones) will all be on someone's stage.

The only evidence I can find of this being a game is a listing on the ESRB with the platform is "DVD". The archived version of the Wikipedia link calls it an "interactive dvd" but, that might just be extrapolation from the ESRB rating it. It is super weird because, the publisher is a porn distributor and neither the Amazon reviews or product listing imply any kind of interactivity.
