Okay, but how can I know if this is really a Dan review if he's not contextualizing this against Metal Gear Solid?

I mean he compares Leon to Brock Lesnar, I think that's an acceptable substitution.

@thisisdell: lul, 100%. "so this is RE4, again."

You grind that ax any harder and it won't be suitable for chopping wood!

Fun fact! The politics in this game are completely reversed: it's usually white American human traffickers kidnapping economically poor Mexican girls and women!

But hey, nationalism in videogames is a helluva drug.

@mikachops: So "gaslighting" is "largely used accurately, except by those who want to silence their own bad behavior until they break through backlash?"

Cause even Godwin himself admitted his "Law" was mostly being used to silence those calling out nazi-like behavior.

I agree that duder you responded to was being a bit much, but he did use the term correctly, so maybe ch-ch-chiggity check yoself?

This is just unacceptable.

Like normally I'm all for just playing whatever and not judging, but this fucking SUCKS. Alex's comment "So you're playing this on the Playstation 2" almost didn't register with me because it sounded CORRECT. This is like if "Ride to Hell: Retribution" were a GTA spinoff game.

For a series like this with this kind of pedigree...I mean I get why Vinny's vacillating between disappointment and annoyance throughout this.

@milpool

Like Brad said, he didn't pick the hardest difficulty; the hardest difficulty is the Default setting. The description text also states "This is the way Ghost and Goblins is MEANT to be played".

Amazing, isn't it?

He says it aloud in the video. He and Jeff comment using language and terms that are concrete and mean things. And yet, the people who haven't even played the game, but are invested in it...just have to sprout up and scream that somehow he's "playing it wrong."

The problem with this era of Giantbomb is not that they're too negative or critique too much, but rather they're pretentious about it.

This has been one of the reasons I don't watch many of their videos and why I stopped subbing to them. I just listen to the podcast until I can't take it and turn it off.

I mean, Jeff went on a 10 min. rant, that could be summed with: 'Nintendos' next mario game will either be good or bad, according to me'. The amount of fucking pretense was crazy.

Hi, I'm a pleasant-sounding, stentorian man.

You know, we have a lot of fun on Giant Bomb dot com, a website about videogames, but I'll tell you what's not fun: mistaking an editor's opinion for a statement of fact, and responding as such.

I know what you're thinking, "Hey, PSA Man, I'm cool. Me and my friends just like posting 'jaded Jeff Gerstmann comments' on videos where his opinion doesn't line up with mine. And ignoring all the times he shows genuine enthusiasm and love for an industry he's been in for over twenty years. It's not hurting anyone."

Well, did you know: jaded Jeff comments are gateway comments to harder "stuff?" Stuff like "misusing the word pretentious to mean 'anything I don't like.' Mistaking a lack of loyalty to a brand I've attached my ego to as a personal attack. And taking weird rumors about staff leaving at face-value.

Don't be a jade egger. Accept that sometimes people have different opinions, and if you disagree there's a Youtuber that'll parrot game company's copy back as an original thought.

I'm a pleasant-sounding, stentorian man. Goodnight.

@rectalarea: Well put.

Strangest thing, of course, being: there are plenty of places you can go online to see, and participate, in praising and enjoying the game.

But it's not enough to enjoy it. Others must be MADE to enjoy it as well, apparently.

Love, love, LOVE the cyberpunk alternatives to everyone who was obviously hoping for something better this year.

The hate for Cyberpunk 2077 has gotten beyond unhinged, why do we need a rant about how it's totally not actually that good in a game of the year list exactly? Why did Erica add extra spite when listing the other cyberpunk games on her list? Some people are acting like the game killed their dog and it's extremely strange. If you don't like the game why are you talking about it so much everybody? None of her criticism goes beyond the surface level and half of what she's written is flat out wrong. The list of links at the bottom of her rant makes it extremely obvious that her "opinion" is heavily influenced by a certain infamous Resetera thread, like does anyone seriously think a few random tweets by a since-fired pr person have anything to do with the game's quality?

"WHY O WHY DO PEOPLE I DISAGREE WITH HAVE TO WRITE THINGS I DISAGREE WITH!??!" might not be the slam-dunk takedown you're praying it is.

@audiosnow: Because it was a PR move to distract from massive government incompetence and is now more a money pit than anything else?

And because something isn't an inevitability just because it sounds neat to say it is?

Other than the inevitable war after Atlantis rises from the waves to retake the nations it once controlled.
