Games Played in 2024

Since 2014 (IT'S BEEN A DECADE!!) I've been documenting every time I play a game and what I thought about it during that session. You can see all the previous lists here.

A session can be anywhere from a few minutes to many hours. Sessions that last longer than one block of time (illustrated below) are counted for each block individually. Sessions that cross over a block (like from 2:30 to 4) count towards the one that more time was spent in.

This will be unedited and likely full of typos and misspellings. The descriptions of my sessions may include story spoilers. Any spoilers will NOT be marked.

Here's the break down of the time of day:

TimeTermTimeTerm
12am to 3am Midnight Noon to 3pm Afternoon
3am to 6am Early Morning 3pm to 6pm Early Evening
6am to 9am Morning 6pm to 9pm Evening
9am to Noon Late Morning 9pm to 12am Late Evening

List items

  • This is for all the various indie games that are not in the wiki yet.

    ~~~~~
    Santrix - https://mslivo.itch.io/sandtrix
    ~~~~~

    Played: 1/17. PC Browser. Early Evening. Enjoyed.

    Watched half a video on this and had to play it! I just messed around with the browser version and had a lot of fun. Really cool game with some interesting strategies. I don't know how deep they could get though.

    ~~~
    Played: 1/18. Midnight.
    Got 91 clears which feels like a lot!
    ~~~

    Played: 1/18. PC Itch. Early Evening.

    Decided to pick it up and it doesn't play much better with a gamepad unfortunately. It is a really cool concept though. I'll probably play it once and while. The paid version is supposed to have more modes, but I didn't notice them.

    ~~~
    Played: 1/19. Early Evening.
    Phenix Currupta - https://caspercroes.itch.io/phenix-corrupta?ac=qfCyYFQF-yt
    ~~~~~

    Played: 1/20. PC Browser. Late Morning. Neutral.

    This is a very challenging retro metroidvania of sorts. It's not really my sort of game since it has a set jump height and I just can never wrap my brain around that. I might continue to mess around with it though.

    ~~~
    ~~~~~

    The Adventures of Poppe - https://store.steampowered.com/app/1941740/The_Adventures_of_Poppe/

    ~~~~~
    Played: 1/28. PC Steam. Early Evening. Negative.
    Negative may be a bit strong, but I kept dying in the same place and felt like it this game is probably not for me. I only played like 6 minutes of it according to Steam.
    ~~~

    ~~~~~
    Cursorblade - https://realpeach.itch.io/cursorblade
    ~~~~~

    Played: 1/28. PC Itch. Early Evening. Neutral.

    Watched a video of this game and it seemed nifty and it is, but my computer kept hitching and that made it hard than it should have been.

    ~~~
    ~~~~~

    Hot Wax - https://www.lexaloffle.com/bbs/?tid=141756

    ~~~~~
    Played: 4/16. Mobile. Afternoon. Enjoyed.
    ~~~

    Played: 4/16. Afternoon.

    This is an interesting little tetris variant that I found a little tricky to control right on my phone, but really like the idea behind. I'll probably play it here and there.

    ~~~
    Played: 4/17. Afternoon.
    ~~~

    ~~~~~
    Tetra Tactics
    ~~~~~

    Played: 4/20. PC Steam. Afternoon. Neutral.

    This game is an expansion on Triple Triad from FF8. While it has a lot of cool ideas, it just wasn't really grabbing me for whatever reason.

    ~~~
    Played: 4/20. Neutral.
    Finished a run. I don't know if I have the mind for this game to be honest. There's a lot going on that I find hard to keep in check. Cool ideas though.
    Played: 5/5. PC Browser. Late Morning. Enjoyed.
    This is an incredibly clever little game.
    Our Adventurer Guild
    ~~~~~

    Played: 8/5. PC Steam. Evening. Positive.

    ~~~
    Played: 8/5. Late Evening.
    I suspect I might add this game to the wiki. I found it by just looking at the dungeon crawler tag on steam. It sounded interesting and had Overwhelming Positive reviews. The art is pretty terrible and the writing is not great, but mechanically it's extremely solid from what I've played so far. I will likely play a lot of this game.
    ~~~

    Played: 8/6. Evening.

    The writing is extremely bland. There was literally an "But then I took an arrow to the knee" joke in 2024!!!!

    But the game itself is really good.

    ~~~
    Played: 8/10. Early Evening.
    ~~~

    Played: 8/10. Evening.

    Oops played this game for like 7 hours. The progression is a little slow, but managing everything is a lot of fun. I lost one good character already and now I started to save scum a bit. I'll probably not do it too much except for when I get a case of the bad rolls.

    ~~~
    Played: 8/11. Midnight.
    Got a character up to level 8. Not really getting amazing loot, but maybe it's just a slow build up.
    My power got knocked out while playing. I really should have brought bombs with me to my current mission. I really under-prepared.
    ~~~

    Played: 8/18. Midnight.

    Had to fail that mission, but I did get some goodies from it. Now I'm trying to be more prepared, but I did end up losing a lvl 2 gal who was on her first mission.

    ~~~
    Played: 8/18. Afternoon.
    ~~~

    Played: 8/18. Early Evening.

    I feel like I've gotten into a groove with this game. I just tried out a bard character and am quickly realizing how powerful a team with two bards on it would be.

    Beat the Bandit King so I feel like I'm passed the first Act. Now I can have 6 to a party and am looking to train up more Bards to fit into them. Ideally I would want two per party. Now I understand why they throw some many archer recruits at me.

    Played: 8/25. Early Evening.

    My main story mission involves protecting NPCs that have bad AI and if they die it's a failure. THough it seemed like I could still continue the story with those NPCs dead? Probably just fails the mission though.

    ~~~
    Played: 8/25. Late Evening.
    Ok. I was able to finish that mission pretty easily by blocking an obvious chokepoint and causing guys to walk back and forth while I took them out one by one. It was pretty touch and go there for a bit while I tried to get the one objective though. Almost lost my main mage. I would have just reloaded if that happened though. She's too necessary.
    ~~~

    Played: 9/8. Early Evening.

    ~~~
    Played: 9/8. Evening.
    ~~~

    Played: 9/8. Late Evening.

    Ok, I have the final mission unlocked, but I want to finish up the rest of the side quests which requires me to get the one character to max with their friends I think.

    ~~~
    Played: 9/8. Late Evening.
    ~~~

    Played: 9/9. Midnight.

    ~~~
    Finished: 9/9. Evening.
    The final mission was perhaps a bit easy. I was able to lock down the final boss and hit him till he was dead. There was nothing he could do. They probably should have given him more reinforcements or a teleport or knockback or something. All and all though, this game was fantastic. It's gonna get super overlooked but it's one of my favorites from this year.
    Dungeon Antiqua
    ~~~~~~~~~~

    Started: 10/18. Evening. PC Steam. Enjoyed.

    Saw this on one of those new on steam bots and decided to pick it up since I was enjoying Grimstone so much. It's a pretty cool dungeon crawler so far.

    ~~~
    Played: 10/18. Late Evening.
    ~~~

    Played: 10/19. Afternoon.

    Got all the Relic armor and I guess now I just go further down. My party is pretty beefy to be honest. This game is alright though. Nothing too incredible, but good at what it's doing.

    ~~~
    Finished: 10/20. Afternoon.
    I finished the game I guess? I know there's some post game stuff but I don't think I'll be engaging with it. I have so many other games I want to play. This game was cool though!!
    ~~~

  • Started: 1/1. PC Steam. Early Evening. Enjoyed.

    I wanted to get to this game last year, but didn't make the time. I played through the first two areas and had a blast! This game is great.

    ~~~
    Played: 1/1. Evening.
    Finished up the 2nd world and the Blue Core. I missed ONE Goldy because I couldn't figure out how to get it I'll have to come back for it.
    ~~~

    Played: 1/1. Late Evening.

    Ah HA! I figured out how to get the Goldy I was missing. It was pretty tricky to be honest. Probably the trickiest so far. It was on the stage called "The Wall"

    ~~~
    Played: 1/2. Evening.
    ~~~

    Played: 1/2. Late Evening.

    Finished up Sequence 3. There were some real tricky side puzzles in this one. Having to set everything up beforehand was an interesting twist to be honest.

    ~~~
    Played: 1/3. Late Evening.
    In Sequence 4 and it's getting tough. I wonder if there's a good hint system. There's a "video solution" option, but I kinda don't want to click it. I'm not the biggest fan of these Competition puzzles. I find them hard to wrap my head around. I'm certain missing something.
    ~~~

    Played: 1/5. Early Evening.

    Had to look up some hints for some of the puzzles in Sequence 4, but was able to solve the rest and the Green Orb on my own. Now into Sequence 5. I'm a little disappointed that it went the route with more Others related puzzles since I like just moving the guys around the best, but so far these puzzles have been fun, if a bit easy.

    ~~~
    Played: 1/5. Evening.
    On to Sequence 6. I didn't get all the Goldy in 5 yet though. The Follow stuff seems interesting if a bit fiddly.
    ~~~

    Played: 1/5. Late Evening.

    I got to a level called "Escort Mission" and DO NOT LIKE IT. It is weird how many of these levels are kinda a stealth game. I think this game is best when it's not that though hahaha.

    ~~~
    Played: 1/6. Afternoon.
    Got up to the first Red Core Sequence and it's more stealth stuff which is a little disappointing. I did really love the Yellow Core levels. It is pretty wild that the final one was a straight up boss fight hahaha. This game has a lot of cool spectacle.
    ~~~

    Played: 1/6. Early Evening.

    Accidentally completed the last level of the one Sequence because I didn't have the Goldy walking yet. RIP, I'll have to redo it. I don't know if I'll go back and get all the Goldy, some of the are real annoying. But I am enjoying this game quite a bit.

    ~~~
    Finished: 1/6. Evening.
    The fight against the Red Core was kinda whatever. More of the same. I did jump into the user made levels and they seem cool. I ended with 5 Goldy still missing. I might go back and collect those or play more user levels. This game was very good.
    ~~~

    Played: 1/6. Late Evening.

    Jumped into some of the user levels. Just did the top rated ones that were on my dashboard. They were a mixed bag. One was very clever but most of them were kinda whatever or very tedious.

    ~~~
  • Started: 1/7. PC Steam. Afternoon. Enjoyed.
    This game is a lot of fun. I like the writing, voice acting (english), and the combat is real good. I do tend to just be overly aggressive which often doesn't work out for me. I'm also still waiting for an encounter that is long chains of parrying against a single opponent. I'm currently in the second episode. Looks like there are 4 episodes.
    ~~~

    Played: 1/7. Early Evening.

    Finished up Episode 3. That was the boss fight I was looking for. Too many tries. The Episode 2 boss battle was also pretty good, but not as interesting. The dueling mechanics really shined in that fight. There was a point in Episode 3 where some mini-boss type guy shows up and was like "I will not fall for your tricks!" but I happened to have a turkey on hand and lured him over to a weapon rack, threw the turkey to stun him and kicked him into the rack, one-shotting him. It was very funny.

    This is one of those games where you could say something like "This is a like a PS2 game (complimentary)". It's focused on what it is while still exploring the possibilities. It doesn't take itself too seriously, while also being sincere.

    ~~~
    Finished: 1/7. Evening.
    This game was a good time. The last episode does a sort of boss gauntlet thing where you refight the bosses from the previous episodes with various twists. I didn't mention it before, but the environmental art is really nice. They have this painting shader for stuff that's off in the distance. It looks real nice! That final encounter was tough, but a lot of fun still. I don't think I'll check out the arena mode. This has been a good way to spend a Sunday.
    ~~~

  • Played: 1/7. PC Itch. Late Evening. Enjoyed.

    This is one of my favorite games ever. Unfortunately due to a harddrive failure I lost my highscores so it was a bit melancholy coming back to it. The rust is still there but I was able to get 6.7 million in Endless mode, which is about a 10th of my actual high score.

    ~~~
  • Played: 1/8. PC Steam. Late Evening. Enjoyed.
    Going through the 2nd DLC stuff.
    ~~~

    Played: 1/10. Late Evening.

    Going through more the 2nd DLC stuff. Unlocked Sammy, but can't afford it.

    ~~~
    Played: 1/12. Evening.
    ~~~

    Played: 1/14. Midnight.

    Attempting to unlock all the cards. I have one more to good!

    ~~~
    Played: 1/14. Afternoon.
    ~~~

    Played: 1/14. Late Evening.

    Attempting to unlock everything in v1.0 and I have two more things on the list. Survive 31 minutes in the Tower and Banish 20 weapons.

    ~~~
    Played: 1/15. Late Evening.
    OK, All I needed was the Tower one, which I was able to do in Endless mode. Now I've unlocked everything in v1.0 and have moved on to finishing up the 2nd DLC. I have the two characters unlocked from the Abyss and just got the hyper mode of that level.
    ~~~

    Played: 1/28. Evening.

    ~~~
    Played: 11/2. Afternoon.
    ~~~

    Played: 11/2. Early Evening.

    Decided to jump into the DLCs I didn't do. Played some of the Among US and Contra ones. It's cool stuff!! Game is still fun.

    ~~~
    Played: 11/2. Late Evening.
    ~~~

    Played: 11/3. Afternoon.

    ~~~
    Played: 11/3. Early Evening.
    ~~~

    Played: 11/3. Late Evening.

    Poked at the new Castlevania DLC. it seems MASSIVE.

    ~~~
    Played: 11/9. Late Evening.
    Unlocked more in the Contra DLC.
    ~~~

  • Started: 1/11. PC Steam. Evening. Enjoyed.

    I liked the other Momodora games so of course I was going to pick this one up. So far, it's a lot more melancholy? I only played up to where I have to find the Fairy village though.

    ~~~
    Played: 1/11. Evening.
    ~~~

    Played: 1/11. Late Evening.

    Met the Fairy Queen. She is very big. This game is very pretty and I'm enjoying it quite a bit so far. I think it plays better than 4. I'm also playing it on Easy with adaptive difficulty so that might be why I'm having a pretty easy time with it, but still...

    ~~~
    Played: 1/12. Evening.
    Found the Black Bell and teleport Cat. This game has been quite good. I do wish I had a fourth card slot though.
    ~~~

    Played: 1/12. Late Evening.

    I must be getting close to the end of this game because I've gotten some achievements for stuff like "collect every X" already. It doesn't really feel like I'm nearing an end though.

    ~~~
    Finished: 1/13. Afternoon
    Beat the game! It was very good. I did have it on easy and maybe that was too easy. But ah well. I did get 110%, so there's a companion and relic out there somewhere that I missed. I didn't go back and talk with the fairies or one lady so that's probably it. I'm not going to do that.
    ~~~

  • Started: 1/13. PC Steam. Late Evening. Enjoyed.

    This game is a metroidvania mixed with some adventure game stuff. It uses a number system from 14th century monks that I recognized from a social media post from a few years ago. The combat seems kinda bad so far because there's a stiffness to the movement, though I did just come from Momodora 5 so there's there's that. Still the game seems cool.

    ~~~
    Played: 1/20. Afternoon.
    I got stuck for a while after finding the edittable key and device, but after that I've been exploring a lot. This game is really cool so far. I'm really enjoying it.
    ~~~

    Played: 1/20. Early Evening.

    I imagine I'm pretty far in this game. Maybe about 50~60%. There's a lot to explore and I have almost gotten all my tattoos. So far the mystery hasn't really grabbed me but the exploration and puzzles are rad as hell.

    ~~~
    Played: 1/20. Late Evening.
    ~~~

    Played: 1/21. Midnight.

    I was wondering around areas trying to find where to go, really filling out the map. Then I realized I hadn't when to one place. I figured it would be a little side thing, but NOPE it was the main story. haha. Now I've continued and found myself in a time-loop thing with the inquisitor where I have to slowly get back my abilities each loop.

    ~~~
    Played: 1/21. Afternoon.
    I feel like I've gotten through most of the Wife's limbo from what I can see. There's still a lot of puzzles there that I don't think I can solve yet. Like the Tarot ones and the rift at the start. I still have a lot of the Father's limbo to go through now that I have the gun that shoot through the purple walls.
    ~~~

    Finished: 1/21. Early Evening.

    The final boss was a bit annoying. Particularly the final phase. I did get all the achievements but one and I'm not going to go back for it. They definitely seem to be setting up for a sequel though.

    All and all I enjoyed my time with this game. It's a bit rough but it has some cool ideas and I really liked it's map system.

    ~~~
  • Played: 1/21. PC Steam. Late Evening. Enjoyed.
    I haven't really played a game like this since Minecraft a decade ago and despite the negative press around the devs I decided to check it out. The single player is fine. I'm having fun but it's pretty mindless fun. It's a podcast game for me so far. I've mainly just been sticking to my base making stuff so it can be self-sufficient. I need to find a pal that can chop wood.
    ~~~

    Played: 1/23. Early Evening.

    ~~~
    Played: 1/23. Evening.
    I did a dungeon and stuff. This game is not great, but it's OK enough. I did unlock some assembly line stuff sooo....
    ~~~

    Played: 1/25. Evening.

    I have a second base now. I guess I could just go and explore instead. I should probably do that, but I just get stuck in the "build build build" mode. The structure building of this game is really bad and awkward. You often have to build temporary stuff so you can remove other stuff.

    ~~~
    Played: 1/27. Early Evening.
    Explored the world more and defeated the first boss tower thing.
    ~~~

    Played: 1/27. Evening.

    ~~~
  • Started: 1/28. PC Steam. Late Evening. Enjoyed.
    I was a big fan of the original and decided to pick this up even though it wasn't on sale. So far it's very slow but I'm enjoying it. It changed quite a bit mechanically.
    ~~~

    Played: 1/29. Early Evening.

    ~~~
    Played: 1/29. Evening.
    Did Celine's cave quest and recruited her, then just went sicko mode in the crafting stuff.
    ~~~

    Played: 1/29. Late Evening.

    In full sicko mode. I'm grinding out raising Rena's pickpocketing so I can steal an item by cooking and feeding her a bunch of seafood. Unfortunately she doesn't have any good pickpocketing skills unlike Claude and Celine!!! I did get A TON of money just completing quests though. This game is just asking you to break it.

    ~~~
    Played: 1/30. Early Evening.
    Stuffing Rena full of FISH. She still has a 0% chance to steal!!
    ~~~

    Played: 1/30. Evening.

    Not just fed Rena FISH but also did some dang FISHING!

    ~~~
    Played: 1/30. Late Evening.
    Ok, so I did get her Pickpocketing to like level 5 but still had a 0% chance to get the item. However I got it on my SECOND TRY! I wonder if the chance for it is actually a lot higher.
    Then I went ahead and finished up Marze.
    ~~~

    Played: 2/1. Late Evening.

    Long session. Too busy doing crafting and junk. Did the optional mountain place for no real reason other than to get some levels. Now in Lacuer.

    ~~~
    Played: 2/2. Late Evening.
    ~~~

    Played: 2/3. Midnight.

    Did the tournament stuff and recruited Opera and Welch. Then tried to roll Goode Boxes to get good items but couldn't really get what I wanted.

    ~~~
    Played: 2/3. Late Morning.
    ~~~

    Played: 2/3. Afternoon.

    ~~~
    Played: 2/3. Early Evening.
    Just got to Ell. My party is Rena, Opera, Ernest, Celine, Dias, Welch, and Claude. No Bowman ore Precis because they suck and I want to get Chasto when I get to Nede.
    ~~~

    Played: 2/3. Evening.

    ~~~
    Played: 2/3. Late Evening.
    ~~~

    Played: 2/4. Midnight.

    In Energy Nede. Got my dragon and am now visiting towns before doing dungeons.

    ~~~
    Played: 2/4. Late Morning.
    ~~~

    Played: 2/4. Afternoon.

    Did some PAs and got the Orb of Courage. the Corbage.

    ~~~
    Played: 2/4. Evening.
    Got the Orb of Wisdom.
    ~~~

    Played: 2/5. Midnight.

    I looked up a guide to about weapons and had to check if I could make one. Unfortunately I couldn't, but then I looked at the challenge list and decided to take care of a few.

    ...I might 100% this game...

    ~~~
    Played: 2/6. Late Evening.
    ~~~

    Played: 2/7. Midnight.

    Nearing the end. Annoyed I missed some of the earlier special spots since I'm at 29 and I need 30 for Chisato's best weapon. Dang.

    ~~~
    Played: 3/14. Late Evening.
    I'm passed the intro and now the game was like "Go find and recruit people," and it seems to have really opened up. Like I can just leave the main town and go anywhere, maybe? Also it seems like you can only save at inns or save points, which is an uhhh interesting throwback.
    Now playing the full release. I'm really glad my progress carried over. I just went through the mine dungeon. It was pretty long. Probably too long since it wasn't super interesting, but I wasn't expecting interesting dungeons from this game. What has been great is the character writing.
    This game is pretty much exactly what I wanted it. It has some roughness and questionable choices (like only being able to save at inns/save points), but I'm really enjoying the story and the world so far.
    Played: 4/28. Early Evening.
    Went through the Proving Grounds and thought I couldn't leave so I had a real tough time with both bosses. Couldn't beat the 2nd one and had to reload, which was before the first one. Then I decide to confirm if I couldn't leave and realized I was wrong. So I went back and restocked a lot of my stuff. Then had little issue with things. That dungeon was pretty cool.
    ~~~

    Played: 4/29. Midnight.

    Went back to the starting area and recruited a bunch of folks from there. Did the two mini games. I'm not very good at the beyblade one but I think that's just because I need better tops. The ones they start you with aren't very competitive. I like the card game more.

    Progressing the story and, gosh, I'm just really here for everything. I love the characters. I'm so glad that Nowa is not silent. He has so much good personality even if it's a bit generic hero boy. It's just so incredible that they released a PS1 game in 2024.

    ~~~
    I was so close to getting teleportation in my previous session and now I have it so WOOOOOO~~~!!!
    ~~~

    Played: 5/1. Evening.

    So by going off and doing other stuff instead of continuing the story, I think they added some dialogue that was like "Why did you make the King wait so long?" which is pretty good. I don't know if that's 100% the case though.

    I did do a lot of fishing trying to get the fish for the fisherman since he unlocks so many other upgrades!!!

    I'm also getting better at the beyblades mini game since I was told what the rps mechanic actually is. I also really like the card minigame.

    Long session. Looked up some recruitment guides so I can make sure I have all the characters and I only missed a few. The accessory bird was very annoying since he requires a 5% drop that just wasn't happening for me. Did get a lot of mystic lumber from the grind though.

    Then had a tough war battle, but won in the end. I'm really liking this game. It's pretty much everything I wanted.

    ~~~
    Played: 5/5. Late Evening.
    I'm now at a point where I can switch between Nowa and Seign and that seems pretty cool. I have to go to a desert city but what I'm going to do instead is RECRUITMENT
    I unlocked Eggfoot Racing and that shit rules. I love it! I keep wanting to call it Eggbug Racing though.
    Ok, finished the cooking mini game and progressed the story to the point where it seems like I'm at no-return. I'm just grinding my guys up a bit while also getting mats so I can fully upgrade the castle. The only issue I'm going to have is the dang plays!!
    ~~~

    Played: 7/1. Late Evening.

    Got Magic Archer!! It seems really cool. I like it better than regular archer for sure. I don't think I'll be using the healing moves from it though. They seem cool, but only having four slots really limits what I could do.

    ~~~
    Played: 4/14. Afternoon.
    The game seems to consistently crash at the Vocation Guild menu for some reason. Maybe it's because I'm playing through GeForce Now? I can't say. More Magick Archer, and it's cool, but enemies tend to target the player character so it's different to use well. I have my main pawn, Lily, as a Fighter now and will give her provoke to help with that.
    I think I might be at the end of the game? I got the godsway sword from the research and the ghost man said "If you do this quest you're at the point of no return!" I suppose it feels like I'm getting to a resolution, but there also feels like there's a lot of side stuff left to do. I went back to Melve and freed them. Now they're all going to join Ulrika in Harve. I guess I should probably go down there and fight the drake. I want to go through a cave I found at the north because it kicked my ass and I think I can do it no problem now.
    Ok so, this is the big game of the month. It's very good, but it's also considerably more complicated that the original and I don't know if that's for the better. Not only is the combat more involved since you have an attack, special, and cast, like in the original, they now each have their own charge action. Then you also have your hex and dash attack. Meaning that you have at least 8 different types of offensive actions opposed to the original's 4.
    The new Dark Mirror equivalent is interesting as it takes inspiration from deck-builders, but there's perhaps too much nuance to it.
    Anyway, I've gotten to the 2nd area boss and had Chronos teleport back to Asphodel once. Every thing is fantastic, even though you can see the bits that are incomplete.
    Got to Chronos, and almost beat the first phase, but couldn't. I upgraded the basic Skull a bunch and that was very good.
    Other than that I'm stuck on the surface. I think the boss there needs a lot of balancing to be honest. It's very hard to see all their AOE garbage and that's all they do.
  • Started: 7/9. PC Steam. Neutral. Afternoon.
    Played about 20 minutes of this. It seems neat. A little Hollow Knight-like which I'm not too excited for, but we'll see how it goes. It did give me double jump as the first powerup which is, not exactly a red flag, but ehhhhh...
    ~~~

    Played: 7/9. Mixed. Late Evening.

    This game is not amazing. It had a really annoying schmup boss that could only be hurt from one it's own specific attacks and there was like 90 seconds between phases. They intended you to dodge it a bunch but I just enabled invincibility from the assist menu and sat there until it was done. Completely uninteresting.

    I explored the 2nd island and got the down stab and the first generator. It has some cool ideas like you don't have set upgrades but get to choose from three random ones when you find an upgrade point, but the moving around and combat are pretty whatever. I'll keep at it for now, but so far I'm pretty unimpressed.

    ~~~
    Played: 7/13. Positive. Afternoon.
    I've come around on this game a bit. Mostly because it feels much better now that I have wall run and some more upgrades. I'm on the third island now.
    ~~~

    Played: 7/13. Evening.

    Apparently I was doing the FOURTH island instead of the third. I got all the seeds there and was against a boss that felt like they were too hard. I went back to the world map and found the rainy island. I do hate the shmup bosses though. They just suck.

    ~~~
    I got the cloud arrow. I'm enjoying this game more but it's still not amazing.
    ~~~

    Played: 7/14. Midnight.

    I'm in the last area and I beat one of the three bosses. I also have collected 100% of the badges and it seems like you can't get every upgrade in this game which is kinda cool.

    ~~~
    Completed it. It was fine!! I'm more positive on it then when I started, but it's still a pretty middling game.
    ~~~

  • Played: 7/15. Mobile. Neutral. Early Evening.

    With the release of ZZZ I was interested in this game since it's not an action game and is turn based. I doubt I'll enjoy it after a point since it's a gacha which means there WILL be a grind eventually, but that might not even matter because it crashed when I went to look at the menu. Like I hit back and it just was that gal looking at her phone and I couldn't do anything. Maybe a blessing.

    ~~~
    Played: 7/16. Early Evening.
    I got a little further into the tutorial before the game crashed on me again. I might try the PC client and just check it out there. The actual combat seems pretty cool all things considered and it's very stylish.
    ~~~

    This game seems really cool so far. It's kinda amazing for what it is and that it came out in 2004 considering what else was out around that time. Atrus is such a jack ass and it seems Catherine is also maybe not a great parent. hahah.

    We just played until the power is back on the bridge collapses.

    ~~~
    Played: 7/31. Evening.
    This game rules! We're still exploring the first age but we found the linking books for Spire and Haven. This Age is so dense with stuff to find though.
    ~~~

    Played: 8/3. Late Evening.

    We're exploring Haven now. There was some fiddliness with a weight puzzle that I didn't full understand, but it was actually much simpler than I thought. The guy they have playing Akenar is NOT at all like how he is in the first game. His voice is too deep, but once he goes into crazy mode, it does have the mannerisms down. I appreciate that they recorded the diaries this time around. Also the camera mechanic is a nice addition. This game is weirdly ahead of it's time in that regard.

    ~~~
    Played: 8/10. Late Evening.
    We had some issues finding the last totem since the hand doesn't show what is interactable well enough. I didn't really have too much trouble with the call puzzle like some folks seem to. Then we explored the house. It's cool.
    ~~~

    Played: 9/6. Evening.

    ~~~
    Played: 9/6. Late Evening.
    We finished up Haven. The guide we occasionally checked said the last puzzle was one of the most BS puzzles in all games but it actually wasn't that bad at all.
    Now we're exploring Spire and it looks like a place out of Dark Souls or a JRPG final dungeon. I accidentally summoned a ship without finding anything out about the solution. Just wiggled something back and forth until it happened. We can't go anywhere in it yet, though.
    I really like this game.
    Looked more around Spire. Got to the other "palace". Starting to make sense of it.
    ~~~

    Played: 9/28. Evening.

    Got to through the big puzzle of Spire, it was pretty cool, but we had trouble getting the strings tuned. It certainly wasn't as fiddly as the guide we checked against made it.

    ~~~
    Played: 10/5. Late Evening.
    Finished up Spire and got to the final Age. It's very pretty and MASSIVE? It's cool they put live actors in the world.
    ~~~

    Played: 10/29. Evening.

    Exploring more of the final age. We got water as our elemental guide. Which is apparently the one you get if you take your time, which we do. I love the amount of actors and how they're fit into the prerendered world. It's so cool.

    ~~~
    Played: 11/1. Evening.
    We solved a very annoying puzzle where we had to carry a bubble to the water spirit. It was SO fiddly and annoying!! Definitely the worst puzzle in the series so far. Then there was sort of lights out puzzle on a hex tile sphere that was pretty good. Peter Gabriel was there for like 30 seconds of VO.
    ~~~

    Played: 11/9. Evening.

    We got pretty far. I think we have one or two puzzles left. There was a nifty sliding block/color puzzle that I liked it. Then there was a very annoying Tower of Hanoi-like puzzle where you had to move dialogue between various symbols but you can only drop one line off at a time and only pick up all lines at once. It was not great! The most interesting part (figuring out where the dialogue and order) was over done by the boring part (moving stuff around). But it wasn't too too bad. There is another one of those puzzles to go however. We also got like another 10 second of Peter Gabriel.

    ~~~
    Played: 11/13. Evening.
    ~~~

    Finished: 11/13. Late Evening.

    We completed Myst 4! I thought it was GREAT! heavily underrated. We got all the endings. The girl playing Yeesha is great when Siris is inhabiting the character. She really nailed it.

    The last puzzle was easier than it's one before it and I actually kinda came around to the fiddliness of it.

    I'm really amazed by the way this game both did 360 prerendered background AND had pretty convincing FMV characters inside those environments. Really impressive and looks like nothing else.

    This game is very basic, but it's good enough for what it is. I hear the 2nd's remake isn't very good, but I don't know the specifics.

    I just unlocked flame throwers and they seem busted. I remember hearing they were pretty difficult to deal with in FM3 too.

    ~~~
    Played: 7/28. Late Evening.
    This game is all about RNG but getting skills that let you target specific parts really helps minimize that. The flamethrowers are especially deadly when you can target specific things.
    this game does do the thing where you can grind for the best equipment then the town after the next mission has even better equipment and you can grind for that. Still I'm settling in on a handful of pilots that I really like.
The story in this game was surprising sophisticated for a game that originally came out on the SNES in the early 90s. I really enjoyed the last act. It was also pretty cool how they let you bring all over your teammates in the final mission.
    I'm curious about the 2nd campaign, but I don't know if I'll do it yet.
    I beat another boss and got a sort of spinning butt stomp ability that lets me bounce off enemies and certain things. I explored a lot more and discovered that I can do a sort of high jump with it if combined with the bombs. This opens up a lot of potential places to be honest. I found I can get to a lava place, but could likely get through other places now as well. I'm now mixed on this game. It has some cool ideas, but I wish it didn't have HK's health system.
    Thought I was in the final dungeon but I am not! I still have one floor of this apocalypse tower to go and then I get flying horses apparently. I didn't mean to spoil myself about it, but I did and whoops.
    Folks, I'm in the actual final dungeon and it's RUDE so far. I'm not going to grind but I might stock up on some antidotes and make sure I always have at least one feather on me. I do have the "best" weapons and armor for my party I think.
    This seems like an OK if fiddly metroidvaina. I like the art a lot, but the moving around is a bit awkward and it does have some Celeste-styled precision platforming which is never my jam.
    ~~~

    I'm done with this game. It has nice art, but I can't stand the precision platforming stuff and health system. It's just not for me, I don't enjoy it.

    ~~~
  • Started: 10/20. PC Steam. Positive. Late Evening.
    This game does a lot of stuff I don't like particular with it's writing, but the moving around feels good and it's very pretty. I just played through til the first boss. There is a bit too much writing for what I'm looking for at the moment and a lot of it outside of the main story is either wink'n'noddy about being a video game or doing very blatant references in a boring way. Like I found some steel that was called "RX-78", you know, like the model number to the Gundam! I rolled my eyes at that. It could be more clever or in-fiction with that sort of thing. I'm pretty sure most of the other item descriptions are references I don't get.
    ~~~

    Played: 10/22. Midnight.

    I don't have too much to say. I did a sewer area and now I'm doing a bombed out area. I don't really feel the health potion system really adds much to game and save points that refill your flasks are too few. I wish enemies could be staggered by blade hits, I guess that's what the telsa bullets are for. But I'm enjoying my time for the most.

    Apparently I'm far enough that I've collected half of the corgis. I got all the abilities listed on the upgrade tree as well. They kinda just give you the charge shot and air dash back-to-back though.

    I think there's a little too much story and the story is not particularly well written or all that good. It's fine, but some of the dialogue could have used an editor.

    This game was fine. I got most of the game. 19/20 corgis, but I'm not going back to get more. I don't care. This game is very much a 3/5. Not a 3/5 (complimentary) or 3/5 (derogatory), but just a 3/5.

    I had a lot of annoyance with the Ubisoft Connect thing just trying to launch the game, but I was already suspecting that I wouldn't enjoy this game very much after hearing how much parrying is important and how much precision platformer stuff is in it. Turns out that so far my suspicions were correct! You can't rebind the controls either!! I would so much rather move with the d-pad and parry with a different button than L2. Both the Analog stick and L2 have too much throw on them to feel good to me. Like I'll parry but get hit anyway since it was slightly too late.

    I'm not fan of parry focused combat in action games. I would rather dodge or tank. It just never feels fun. You just wait around until the enemy decides to attack. It's boring!! It really slows down exploration. This game has the same issue that the recent Metroid Games have due to this.

    Using the analog stick to move while doing tight platforming SUCKS. I have to take my thumb completely off the stick because otherwise it'll register inputs I do not intend. It's very annoying.

    I'm sure a lot of these issues will be lessened as I get more stuff but right now I'm pretty middling on this game.

    Got a side quest to get some metal for the blacksmith and I have to go through a room where it completely resets if you get hit. These sorts of challenges have no place in metroidvanias. They just suck. It worst because this game doesn't seem to read inputs well. Like it seems like there's a huge buffer window or something. It constantly thinks I pressed down or up when I haven't and that makes doing any sort of precision platforming extremely frustrating. When I was doing the combat challenges I would have to completely let go of the left analog stick otherwise I could not do the inputs correctly. Very very frustrating! I think I'm just gonna try to mainline it and not worry about any of the exploration, but that's sort of what I come to this genre for.

    I got down through the depths area and I think I'm just down with this game. I'm not vibing with it. I don't really enjoy the moment-to-moment and the input issues are really frustrating.

    This game seems interesting so far, but I'm mostly just sort of baffled by it. For some reason I thought it had more of an adventure game dealie with puzzles, but it's mostly just story. It's interesting. I finished Chapter 1. I like the art style and the voice direction, but it's not grabbing me a ton.

    COMPLETED! Well, I got the Blue ending and not the Red ending. I assume the only difference is if you keep Principal around. I also didn't get the Jiao ending, but that's easy enough I imagine. I'm not going to go hunting for that stuff though.

    This game is fantastic! I think the overall plot draws a little too much from Nier Automata in terms of like aliens and having a little guy with you, but I really really love it's themes. It's JUICY! Especially when coupled with Indika. They're both playing in such similar spaces while also having their own identities. I do have some questions regarding the plot that maybe I missed.

    - What happened with the Sisters who board the train to go see the Allmother?

    - Did Watcher really kill the Allmother or was it actually Principal?

    Less interesting questions:

    - Were there any other survivors or people like Iris besides her Mother?

    - What happened to the people that were trying to have children with the Isis clones?

    - How did Isis remove the Sisters' Immunity?

    These don't really affect my enjoyment of the game nor do I think they're "plot holes". I likely just missed something or didn't get the right dialogue option. They all ultimately do not matter.

    This was on a week or so ago, so I picked it up. It sure is an SMT game so I'm probably gonna love it. I was tempted to play it on Hard since I'm very familiar with these games and already do a lot of grinding, but I decided against it. I also apparently chose the Vengeance route. I considered changing that since I've never played this game before, but it felt right in the moment so I went with it. It had a really cool opening and I'm a little disappointed we didn't stay in that version of Tokyo longer, but eh, I'll let the story play out. I'm already really exhausting the first area and I've only played for like 45 minutes. This game will take me 400 hours hahaha.
