Sony just wrapped up a pretty nice State of Play, prior to Summer Game Fest 2025. With variety and creativity going hand in hand, it kinda feels like a return to form for the platform. If I were to score it, I'd land somewhere around a 9, with the two dozen games that were shown off. Almost every single title was interesting or better. With very rare exception, there wasn't any game that I wouldn't at least be willing to try. You can't complain about that level of quality.
So, what better way to solidify that statement than by ranking another list? People love lists. I did, however, not include the new Astro Bot update or classic games being made available on some subscription service. You can check out the full presentation if you're interested in that kind of perpetual income stream, to see if you've missed anything.
ATTENTION: As always, the order of appearances are reversed, from lowest appeal to best, because that's how this website about video games works. Here we go:

This was pretty much the only thing I forgot about while they were showing it. If anything, Sony seems to have learned to relegate live service-looking stuff into a quick promo reel. It's friendslop; everything is slop now.
I do not care about this QWOP game.
I do not care about this Metal Gear game, but at least it looks really good, except for the parts where they have to achieve parity with the original visual style. I don't like Metal Gear and this will not change a thing. Bring back Metal Gear Acid and the VR mode that lets you ogle half-naked girls, you cowards.
I do not care much about this climbing game, especially since they timed it near Jusant. It's a big year for confusing releases, like Expedition 33 and 33 Immortals. I have no qualms about the concept, however; it's just not a niche I'd actively explore myself. I feel like all those bouldering hipsters are into this.
Look, I trust the Hitman developers to deliver a sound product, but yikes. That's the least charismatic Bond character they've ever made. Yes, worse than James Bond Jr. even. Nathan Drake looking ass. Kingsman looking ass. We'll probably swing on this, once we're able to get hands on it.
I surprised myself a little, but I'm much less hype about this sequel than its original. Having recently replayed the majority of the first Castlevania games, I think that we're full up on tributes of all sorts. Bloodstained was good the first time around and they even made those 8bit throwbacks. Double dipping – while still intriguing – feels like we're pushing it a tad. I'd still play it.
I'm never going to touch a VR game, but I also can't say that the Thief franchise is in a place where this doesn't make sense. You can only really go up at the moment and Vertigo Games is like the VR studio of choice, so they've tossed the stealth game into the right hands. More power to those who own the platform. I know they're starving right now.
I'm never going to be hype about a game that prioritizes visuals, but I can hardly hate here. This game looks incredibly good. Did you see how gross that dog’s mouth is? I'm sure that there will be a competent game attached to it, even if it looks generic as just about any other Sony blockbuster to me. People like these games; this will likely be one of them.
I wish we would've gotten just a little more clarity about what this thing is. I'm definitely intrigued, but I couldn't get a bead on how this thing works. Also, we all know that asynchronous multiplayer projects are doomed to irrelevance after a few weeks. Remember Meet Your Maker? Of course not. That said, the visual style and flow really hooked me. One can hope.
They keep making Digimon games look better and cooler and I never play them. Is this the one that will turn the tide? Probably not, but I deeply respect their commitment to doing right by the franchise, for the select few who do dive in. I bet those fans are eating so good and it kinda makes me envious. Someone tell Jan to do a Quick Look of this, when it comes out.
