Every Game From The Game Awards 2022 RANKED

The Game Awards 2022 have gone down as, probably, the craziest edition ever. Literally anything could happen at that show! Big reveals, crazy flutes, weird surprises; you never knew what was gonna happen next. It was the ride of a lifetime.

Most of all, I think this is the only edition where I came out of it feeling positive about the majority of it. I'm trying to scale back on the negative approach. There are definitely a dozen things about the event that I deeply, authentically hate. At this point, though, why even bother pointing it out? No one wants to hear it.

What people do love hearing is lists!

That's why I'm gonna rank every game that was announced, more or less. SpongeBob is coming to Fall Guys, but I don't think that's really a relevant item. Almost everything else is making the cut! I'm doing it, if only to know which game truly won me over the most. Like I said, this was the first time where I was at least interested in most of the announcements. That's kind of a big deal.

So here are the games from The Game Awards 2022! We're starting with the best, the ultimate winner, down to the not so great, maybe.

(Words will be edited in when the phone unfriendly editor lets me)

List items

  • It was a tough choice, because there were many home runs, but I can't wait for this game. The first Space Marine holds a special place in my heart. It's one of the best shooters ever created and illicited an amazing response from Ryan Davis in the Quick Look. This looks ready for primetime. This is gonna rule!

  • Vampire Survivors is on phones now and that's all I ever wanted. I mean, I always wanted free time, but that's gone now, because I've already done several runs. Surprisingly, phones can survive the late game onslaught. That's an achievement in itself. Undeniably, this is the game of the year.

  • Well... I didn't expect that. In fact, no one expected this, because they would've closed the show with this From Software game, if they had anticipated the response. Finally, we get a new mech game. The possibilities are endless, but with the scope they can afford now, this is going to be epic. I literally started playing Armored Core V right after the show.

  • The good Dark Souls game is back. I loved the first, but it looks like they're cleaning up the 'eurojank' for the second installment, which sounds like a winner in my book. They're leaning hard into the twisted atmosphere. Hopefully, people will actually give this its flowers, this time.

  • Wow, they've been keeping busy, huh? I didn't expect this one to blow me away, but Baldur's Gate looks better than ever. Truly, this feels like the epic magnitude a name like that deserves. It's been quite some time coming. I'll admit, that collector's edition also looks pretty damn good.

  • Supergiant is still doing cool things. They only do things that are cool. I wasn't expecting a full sequel, let alone one that got announced this quickly. I'll take it, though. I don't think anyone here is complaining about getting more of this beautiful game.

  • I've said this a lot now, but yes; I was definitely not expecting more Bayonetta. The art of this game is absolutely incredible and differentiates itself from the main games, as a spinoff should. I didn't even think I really wanted more Bayonetta, but this proved me wrong.

  • Unlike most people, I liked what We Happy Few was trying to do. This looks like that game got shoved in some kind of Breath of the Wild format. There's no way that I won't like this; it's pure class.

  • Good on the developers for sticking with the Remnant games. Although there's nothing wrong with the first one, I guess they just needed a fresh start. This game is going to be good, no doubt, but they might need to time it just right.

  • Speaking of timing: When this was announced alongside The Outer Worlds and more Fallout games, it looked derivative as hell. Atomic Heart made the biggest turnaround for me. When given room to breathe, I think this game might be awesome now! It's half Bioshock, half Fallout. Just don't release too close to competitors and you'll be fine.

  • Before Diablo became a game that changed my life, the thing that really blew my mind was the cutscenes that only Blizzard knew how to craft. Diablo IV seems like it is finally going back to that. That buys a lot of slack. Call it a nostalgic pipe dream.

  • Oh man, this game. Here's my take: Crime Boss will either be an amazing ensemble or a Quiet Man level train crash. Either way, you can bet your top dollar that this thing will be entertaining, one way or the other. What a cast. Who dreamed this stuff up and why? I'm laughing already.

  • Yo, they made Street Fighter look good, huh? This is such a step up from the meek showing Street Fighter V had at launch. Even if they showed mini-games that will be played exactly once, all I care about is that Capcom showed that they're all in. You can tell that they want this to hit.

  • Another looker. I'm cautiously optimistic. Stranger of Paradise has shown that Square Enix knows how to cram active combat in their Final Fantasy now. Their focus on showpieces also brings us back to the Playstation 1 days, where they were the top dog in visuals. I have hope.

  • Once again, they just make Star Wars games look really good, these days. We didn't always get such high effort license games. Maybe it looks a little like just more of the same, but I can't say that it's easy to get tired of slashing enemies with a lightsaber.

  • For the longest time, Forspoken looked like a massive dud to me. The traversal is neat, but the world building and dialogue around it was pretty awkward. Now that they've shown the combat up close, it feels a lot more impactful. It might even be a good game.

  • We might finally get a DC game that's good again. The character dialogue feels right, the cutscenes aren't devoid of personality and it looks like they're not going to sugar coat anything. It really depends on how the cooperative aspect of this plays out, but things are looking up for the comic genre.

  • I want this to be good so badly. This game looks absolutely stunning and, technically, EA and Koei Tecmo are capable of great things. They're also capable of running a good thing into the ground, which is why I can't put it higher, but its visuals are on point.

  • I mean, sure, why not? I wasn't expecting this to ever happen, because I don't even know how you would make a second of this fever dream. I'll give it points for having the balls to go for it. I find it extra hilarious that they're going with "DS2," because no bad game was ever called DS2.

Don't joke about the pandemic again. That was your one time pass.

  • There aren't pages for DLC, but Dead Cells is getting Castlevania content and that's just a perfect marriage of both properties. I'm not sure that a lot of people are still looking at this game, as it's getting long in the tooth, but that's a wonderful addition for fans.

  • I like it when the anime people go 'whoosh'. I would play this game if it was bad and regularly do play bad games. Genshin Impact is one of my favorite games, so if you even touch it, that's good enough for me.

  • It's like Blue Protocol with less anime. That's not a slight; it might be good. It's just that if I can choose between two very similar games, I'll favor the one that looks like Genshin Impact.

  • I don't know how to feel about this one. When the camera zoomed in close, I was captivated by the art style and the lighting. When you got a full camera view, I felt that the little pixel dudes looked kinda silly. So, I guess I'm hoping that they keep that camera angle pretty tight. Blade Runner games are always a gamble.

  • Hey, Tekken looks just as good as Street Fighter, even if they're going a little crazy on the musculature. I just don't know if I'm seeing anything that I'm not really getting from Tekken 7, other than that game is really old now. I'm sure it will find its audience? I think I need to see more.

  • I own the PS3 Hellboy game and it's one of the most miserable licenses I've ever played. By all metrics, it's a fully functional game. And that's also the best thing I can say about it. If this manages to pass that low bar, it will be a win in my book.

  • A Netflix exclusive of some magnitude. The first game has a bit of a following and this is going for the exact same vibe. I do like Netflix games, but they've been batting under their weight so far, so I don't know what this is going to turn out to be. People generally don't even know that you can play games through Netflix.

  • I'm certainly not that big on Playstation games coming to PC, but this is one that made perfect sense. The game itself might still not be great, unless your name is Jacob Geller, but at least you don't have to buy a €500 Returnal machine to try it now.

  • There's nothing wrong with this little, wispy adventure game. I've just seen this type before. It will be fine and, also, no one will bat an eye at it. By next week, no one will remember the name.

  • Is this going to be more like Returnal or more of an adventure vibe? The combat looks pretty good, but I don't know if the alien puzzle thing is going to mesh with it super well.

  • I don't think Celeste is anything special and this is just treading in its footsteps. Don't get me wrong, that's the right thing to do, considering its rabid fan base, but it leaves me fully whelmed. They'll make it all nice for the people who like it. Have fun.

  • I totally forgot that this was announced, but it looks like a fun VR experience with friends. The crux "with friends" might be a big barrier to cross, because busting alone isn't nearly as good as busting together.

  • Even though I liked my recent playthrough of Silent Hill 2 a lot, I still hold every horror game under scrutiny. I like the Control vibes. I respect the Inside vibes. I'm not sure if it's going to be able to do anything interesting or, at least, interesting enough to stand out for many people. We see these tribute games twice a year.

  • I have loved these interactive dungeon games my entire life. I've also seen literally every single one of them fail instantly. They always go belly up within months. Always. I refuse to get my hopes up again. I'm sorry. Please, prove me wrong.

  • I think the Bioshock angle has been done better by several people now. We don't need to bring Ken Levine back, after all this time. I have no faith that he has learned not be as overbearing and insufferable in his messaging. What added value is there left, at that point? Put this on the PS Vita and we'll talk.

  • This is another one that I 'want' to like. An open world Dune game sounds amazing. I just don't think we've seen enough of the game yet for that to make sense. There are so many pitfalls and licensed properties rarely take the time and care to nail it. If they had a showstopper on their hands, I think they would've shown it by now.

  • I like the idea of this? I just don't think what we've seen was good. The whole incomplete idea has burned me before. I reviewed Murdered: Soul Suspect, so don't show me another ghost game, unless you can show me the full loop of it.

  • I'm gonna be honest: These Crash side games never do well. They're always underdeveloped and people just aren't looking out for them as much. I played that recent Crash phone game and it's an atrocity. I just don't think we need this.

  • Another one of those games that has been done before. Yes, you're in a nicely painted world and you can mess around with the perspective and that's the whole bit. Puzzles like that never make me feel smart, but they do often make me feel stupid. That's not exactly a great selling point.

  • I could, technically, get excited about a new, high production Transformers game. Is that what we saw here? What did we see here? I barely saw a Transformer. It looks sharp, I guess.

  • I'm done with this genre, with this art style and with this kind of quirkiness. Call me bitter, but very little of that seems enticing to me, other than it looks fully fleshed out.

  • What is this game? I waited the entire trailer for them to tell me what this game is and I still don't know what this game is. This could be another Cybermancy, for all I know. I mean, that would be funny, but a little clarity would be cool.

  • They're trying to sell you waifus before the game even launched. Fuck all the way off with that shit. Nintendo at its finest, by which I mean their worst. I guess Fire Emblem still looks good, but that sent a gross shiver down my spine. Ew.

  • I'm so done with Horizon. I don't hate the game, but I think they've fully explored it by now. Stop trying to sell even more of it; it's suffocating. It doesn't help that they went full Nathan Drake and crashed the Hollywood sign, conveniently after you showed up after a few hundred years. Please, have some dignity.

  • A VR game is never going to be exciting, because those experiences are rarely more than middling. I guess the Shadow of the Colossus angle could be neat, but it's also very likely to mostly just be a movie that plays out, while you occasionally reach out your hand. It certainly won't sell those overpriced gadgets.

  • I'm reluctantly adding this, but I see no added value that these kinds of physics brawlers bring. It's more Gang Beasts, if you like Gang Beasts, but don't want to play Gang Beasts.

  • Cyberpunk is getting Idris Elba. I'm amazed the game is in a functional enough state to do so, but I guess they have to strike at the most opportune time, while an anime show is propping up their steaming turd. I'm not a fan of opportunism.

  • If you've read the above about suffocating Horizon, then this certainly won't help. If anything, it beats the point to death. For a game about rampant overconsumption, they sure don't apply that to themselves. Once again: No one of a sane mind will buy a PSVR, just so they can play even more Horizon. What a needless and, frankly, tone-deaf thing.

  • Get the fuck out of here with this Resident Evil remake of a remake shit. Who the fuck cares?
