Yoshi's Island definitely has the best looking Koopas in all of Nintendo games. Oh and Mario Sunshine and 64 play the most similarly of any of the 3D Mario games. While I adore Galaxy and Galaxy 2 (3D Land & World played similarly), it was disappointing that the games were slower, floater, and less responsive than the first two games. Luckily the post-Sunshine games are far superior for just having drastically better designed and more fun levels.
I hope they play Castlevania The Adventure: ReBirth next, it should be an easy transition since they're already playing on the Wii (U). It's a really cool remake of the gameboy Castlevania game, and it would be nice to see since I don't know how many "normal" Castlevanias are left.
Any transition besides symphony of the night would be weird considering it starts at the exact point Rondo of Blood ends including the fight.
I thought Vinny didn't care for the "open world" style Castlevanias as much, but you're not wrong. I started another file on SOTN the other day on Xbox One and it was funny, since the game plays more like Super Castlevania (well it has the spinning whip thing) than Rondo of Blood.

Please play Mass Effect 2 Alex. Hopefully on PC with all the DLCs and such included (maybe there's some mods out there that clean it up at this point?) You could also easily get a solid imported save for ME1 to have a little more color to the game too.
