Games Completed in 2014

Let's hit 20 this year!

List items

  • An emotionally exhausting experience both in its story and gameplay. Phenomenal.

  • A beautiful, sad experiment. I think the game's emotional moments could have been more impactful had there been more time to develop the characters. A unique control scheme that enhances a sweet, dark story are enough to easily recommend.

  • So, yeah, you can't "complete" this game, and I certainly didn't. I could very well keep building up my town with new public works projects. But these lists serve to remind me what games I played and when I played them. So if you say this "doesn't count" just pretend it's not on the list. Anyway, I really like Animal Crossing. It's so adorable, but unfortunately loses its magic when your play time just becomes the same chores everyday.

  • My first GTA, and I loved it! Like Skyrim, it's an achievement how great this game looks and how many little details Rockstar have shoved in despite the game's huge scope. Some of the story stuff is inconsistent, but I loved all the silly moments, despicable characters, and just being in this bluntly cynical, beautiful world.

  • Simple, charming fun. Surprisingly looks fantastic in 3D as well. It also has maybe the most adorable ending of a game I've played.

  • (Left Behind DLC) Awesome, awesome expansion. Should be an influence in storytelling and the portrayal of women in games for years to come.

  • Here's a weird opinion: I like AC1 more! This game is still lots of fun but has a weaker story and lacks cohesion to me.

  • Praise the Sun! Not as good as Dark Souls 1. The changes they've made are sort of trade offs. Lots of obtuse crap thankfully trimmed, but you don't obsessively memorize level design since you can warp freely. Also, bosses aren't as memorable or as hard. But PvP and co-op are handled much better this time, and I had way more fun than I would've thought challenging other players (and winning!).

  • Never played Devil May Cry, God of War, or Bayonetta, but if DmC is anything to go by, I could really like combo-driven hack and slash games. Combat is tight and stylish. I wish the story took itself a little less seriously because I was loving the ridiculous situations and over-the-top dialogue.

  • A flawed yet refreshing take on a "war game." Has a good emotional range and packs a punch in its finale.

  • This game is beautiful, perhaps one of the best-looking games I've played. Excellent soundtrack and fun combat system too. The rhyming is a little much...

  • Short but effective in giving me a glimpse into the frustrations of a trans woman. The visual metaphors for the emotions of gender dysphoria are easily understood. Shows how games can be a powerful communication tool.
