It's very good. The anime was good, but lots of perhipory stuff was cut out. If you didn't like the anime, don't get.

That is why many people think the Visual Novel is better. Also i offers different endings and storylines.

It sounds like the things I enjoy about Persona frustrate you. I like that they don't "explain away" Kanji's motives and feelings

The thing is that they do try to explain it away. That is my main problem with it. They try to explain away Kanji's feelings for another boy as a misunderstanding.

You should not use any gender. Because Kanji fell in love or developed feelings for a person not a boy or girl. That he thought Naoto was a boy was confusing to him and that is why he struggled. He was not sure if he was straight, gay or as you said it be. And in his age that is a total normal reaction these days.

So since Visual novel like games became a bit more popular with stuff like 999 I really hope people here also will be interested in this game which will be released in a week (The limited Edition) and next month the normal one. For people who do not know what this game or story is about:

Okabe Rintarou -- aka Okarin -- is an eccentric college student who dreams of conspiracy and chaos. Adopting the persona of a mad scientist, he spends his time developing oddball gadgets with his friends in their makeshift laboratory.

One day, they accidentally discover that one of their inventions can send emails into the past. In other words, they have created a time machine.

SERN, John Titor, the IBN 5100, the Butterfly Effect, and the 11 theories of time travel -- when chance brings these elements together in Akihabara, Japan, the fate of the world hangs in the balance.

What will Okarin choose when he holds the future in his hands?

Personally I have never watched the Anime so I will go in relatively blind but due to the really good reception of this game I am petty excited to be honest. For the uninformed this game is rated M for a reason. As far as I know there will be no explicit sex scenes or full frontal nudity but several forms of violence and also sexual themes which could be uncomfortable for some people. I doubt it is on a Saya no Uta level but since I never watched the anime or played the game so far I can not say that this is 100% true.

Here is some old trailer:

So anyone here interested or already played the game?

It does seem a little fucked up that the Oculus possibly wouldn't have been a thing unless those people had backed them on Kickstarter..

And thanks to those people they are.. and now they were just bought out.

I understand that Kickstarter is essentially a charity but man that feels shitty.

Cool hope the backers learned their lesson about giving away money... oh wait no they never will haha fuck see you in star citizen peace brahhhhh

Actually backer got exactly what they were promised. They got their devkit and nothing else. But yeah people should not spend tons of money on kickstarter. Rather see it as a chance to get games cheaper like I do.

@vaddixbell: My main problem with kanji's storyline is the game brings up that Kanji is attracted to someone who he thinks is a boy. The game then explains this away by showing that the boy that he liked is really a girl. This doesn't explain anything because Kanji still legitimately thought that Naoto was a boy.

I don't really remember having a problem with Naoto's storyline.

Kanji did not feel attached to Naoto because he thought Naoto was a boy, but rather because of the person itself. That why it was so confusing to him.

WOW I guess I can understand selling a company with a uncertain future for 2 billion but damn... Oculus had a good run. At least we gamers still have Morpheus.

@brodehouse: What I was trying to say is the way the persona 4 dealt with kanji's sexuality was just lazy writing. One of the reasons I used the Avatar example was to remove my problems with Kanji's story line with Kanji's sexuality. What is the point in bringing up a subject if you don't even want to deal with it. In both cases it just felt like they were wasting my time.

I do not think it was lazy writing. It was realistic writing. Teenagers are often confused about their sexuality and Kanji was such a person when he suddenly has met Naoto which also had a lot of problems not because she was a transgender but because she was growing up in a world and family that was build around males. There was no place for women or even little girls in their world. That is why she wanted to become a boy. On the inside you can see that Naoto on the inside is very feminine but always was scared to show this site. Also this Naoto trope is fairly common in Japanese media in general. And all girls in there were build around these popular tropes.

As for the whole topic: We need to stop using words like misogynistic, homophobic, racist etc when we are talking about this. Criticizing is fine but these words define judgement and hostile accusations. This media is not here to create and social standard, it exist to entertain. And if someone kill of a women for example than it is not sexist but a common story writing tool to create empathy and emotions. It was not created to show how weak women are. These people just want to tell a entertaining story. And it creates these story because they serve a special market nothing else. What we need in general is just better writing. We need more stories like a Persona or the Last of us to name just two completely different stories and characters. Better writing is also, what holds Bioware's romance stuff back. The writing and the love scenes in general are really really bad in my opinion. Good or even decent romance related scenes are very very rare to begin with in this Industry. I think CDRED did a really decent job with their love/sex scenes in the Witcher 2 but beside that there is rarely any good stuff out there... The kissing scene in FFX how cheesy it is is also one of the highlights in my opinion. Option is also fine but please try and do it decently and not like Bioware.

Witch Craft Works is now post-apocolyptic and Weekend is like an evil Batman. This has gone down a crazy road with lots of literal explosions.

Stuff like Attack on Titan loses so much emotions when going into English. Just watch the show now on Netflix and get the feels XD

This might literally be the dumbest thing I've seen you say yet.

I do not think so and I really believe this. For example watch One Piece in English and with all these emotional scenes it loses so much of the atmosphere so much of the intensity these scenes have in the original. Even stuff like Dragonball Z loses so much intensity. Try too compare the screams of a hurt Goku and then listen to the intensity of the Japanese screams. And It is no wonder at all for that. Voice acting is on a total different acceptance level in Japan.
