i don't think you're meant to empathize with Haas, or most of the other characters for that matter, you're supposed to manipulate him into letting you into the police station. some times you have to tell people what they want to hear, and not what you feel they should hear.EDIT: I also wonder why you are even playing the game if you don't care about the story, universe or the characters. The guy behind the desk is an important character in Jensens past. It's boggles the mind that someone can find what he is saying to be unimportant or not pay attention to it. It just stupid to complain about the choices you make not affecting the story if your not paying any attention to the story. That's not by choice, I didn't start playing with the mentality that I was hoping the game would fail! I just find it hard to care about this guy in particular, he starts openly weeping at his desk because he shot a kid and I tell him it's not his fault - but it just feels hollow and empty. Part of that is down to weird voice acting and minimal animations on the characters, but part of that is me genuinely not being able to empathise with the guy.
the game has obvious flaws, the biggest being that different playstyles will lead to different levels of enjoyment. but i didn't have those bad experiences since i went stealth most of the time, so for me this was the most fun i had with a game this year.
also if you have the lift heavy stuff-aug and the hack turrets-aug , you can totally pick up stationary turrets and use them as improvised weapons. how awesome is that?
