@snakelinksonic: When I first started the game and read up on cross-class skills and such I discovered Blood for Blood being a skill you get by leveling a lancer. I think I was still pretty early on in the game with my level 30ish monk, but I thought: "Well the sooner I level up lancer to 34 the more effective I can be as a monk."
Leveling up that lancer to 34 nearly made me quit the game. I still firmly claim that leveling a lancer is quite possibly the worst thing ever, assuming you have no interest in just being a dragoon as your main class. I'm about to go on a rant so feel free to ignore this if you like. The leveling structure of that class is so borked to be not fun. They give you a 1-2 combo to start with that in total does 350 potency, but then at level 8 they give you an attack skill that does 180 potency so if you use it twice you do 360 potency of damage! There's basically no reason to use your 1-2 combo (with the exception of life surge every 90 seconds woo) until you get to freaking level 26 and finally get the third skill so you have your first 1-2-3 combo. I got so salty at how dumb the class played from 8-26.
I wish they took a second look at the skill distribution throughout leveling for some of the classes. For pugilist/monk they get their 1-2-3 combo basically immediately at level 6. That's the part of their melee dps system that I find fun, which is why it baffles me that for lancer/dragoon they keep you from having a 1-2-3 combo until level 26. The other minor annoying one is giving paladins their dps stance before their tank stance.
In general I'm glad they're taking a real hard look at the cross-class system cause it's so pointless as it is. All it does is make you level up classes you may not want to play at all to get the few "required" cross-class skills for your main class.
Got around to watching the teaser trailer and I'm pumped. I kind of want to play my monk now even though it looks to be more complicated than Dragoon since it's very position dependent. It doesn't help that my monk is already level 50 due to me getting him to max level during 1.0, so learning from scratch is kind of out of the question.
You kind of lucked out if you're worried about difficulty in playing a class in my opinion. xD I know the sort of common belief is that Monks are "difficult" classes because we rely the most on positional attacks, but other then learning what position you should be in for each attack the class is really simple. It's almost unfair how much damage we can put out with such a simple playstyle (especially considering how other classes got changed in Heavensward). :P I chose to main monk because punching is cool and was pleasantly surprised to find that it's still my favorite dps class even after trying out all the others. It's just so much easier and simpler than the others.
I agree that if you decided to jump in now, that the Palace of the Dead might be a nice way to reacquaint yourself with your skills. However it isn't really the best way to practice your positionals since everything in Palace of the Dead is designed for any party configuration and thus all positional skills count regardless of your position. Monks are fun! They get even more fun with the skills added in Heavensward!
