Game of The Year 2014 Users Choice

So, this is my list for Game of the Year 2014. Notable exclusions included Far Cry 4 (I've played too much Far Cry 3 this year), and Dragon Age Inquisition (I just never found time).

Honourable Mentions List.

Goat Simulator

You got to cause havoc as a goat, that appeals to me.

Super Smash Bros for WiiU

I enjoy the Nintendo fan service.

Mario Kart 8

Would probably of been in my top 10 if I'd had more chance to play it local multiplayer.

Oneechanbara Z2 Chaos

Long time fan of the series, ever since some Brad Shoemaker played The Oneechanbara 2 Import on an old episode of On The Spot, and I found out some of the older games were out, and realy cheap, in the UK. Even though I understand very little of their story, they're still fun to play.

Lightning Returns

I liked the characters of Final Fantasy XIII, so, yes, I also enjoyed this.

Vib Ribbon

I missed this when it originally came out in Europe, but man, am I glad I got to play it now. That soundtrack.

Senran Kagura Bon Appetit

Speaking of soundtracks, this one's pretty great too. The fact that the side stories for the characters were all crazy helped too.

Marvel Heroes 2015

After playing Diablo III, I sank a whole lot more time into this.

Roundabout

Those FMV's.

Dynasty Warriors 8 Xtreme Legends Complete Edition

Specifically the PC version, which ran like a dream, and let me at Dynasty Warriors whenever I wanted.

List items

  • The original Bayonetta is a strong contender for one of my favourite games of all time. More of that would of been more than enough to get this on my Top 10. Making improvements to how it plays makes up for the fact that this never quite gets as crazy as the first game, but man, was it still so much fun.

  • I enjoyed vanilla Diablo 3, but never quite git obsessed with it, it didn't have the same loot lust Diablo 2 had. With the expansion, the new loot system and the Crusdaer class, Diablo 3 fully sank its claws into me.

  • I really enjoyed Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, so yeah, it was little surprise that I really liked the follow up. Twin stick shooter Tomb Raiding is real fun it turns out.

  • I love the Neptunia series of games, and I have Giant Bomb's quick look of the first game to thank for that. But as the sequels came out, and with my bad luck, the first game became harder to play. So a re-imagining of the events of the first game, with the systems of the most recent game, on a system I could take anywhere was awesome.

  • I like brawlers, I like Ninjas, I like cute anime girls and I like dumb stories. Senran Kagura Shinovi Versus has all of those in spades.

  • When I finished Ground Zeroes on PS3 the first time in under 30 minutes, I was initially pretty angry. Then I played it again. Then I bought it again for the PS4 when I got one. I finished it numerous times. By the time I bought the PC version, not only had I realised just how great Ground Zeroes was to play, but that I was also just really happy playing around with it, seeing how it all worked. Some might rightly call it lacking in content, but I've gotten more than my moneys worth out of it, and I'm so excited for MGSV proper.

  • I love Dynasty Warriors. I love the Legend of Zelda. Mix them both together and sprinkle in vast amounts of fan service and first time playable characters and you have a hit in my books.

  • I didn't like the first two inFamous games. Nothing about them appealed to me. So, when I first saw Second Son, I wasn't that impressed, but after seeing more of it in motion, it became the game I wanted to get with my PS4, and I don't regret it. I liked the characters, I liked the powers and I liked the city.

  • How it looked. How it played. How it sounded. Transistor is amazing and would probably be higher on this list if I'd played it again more recently.

  • I'm a sucker for collectable figures and Marvel games. I also sunk vast amounts of time into the original Disney Infinity, so it's of little surprise this made my list, but then, the figures are some of my favourite figures of Marvel's characters, and it's great fun running around the pre-built playsets and seeing what other people dream up.
