IP@E3: Quick! Make Some Friends! MAG Unveiled!

Tuesday, July 15, 2008 by Kim

Sony finished off their conference this afternoon with something no one saw coming. A game that you will be able to play with 255 other people, at the exact same time. Sound like a pretty big undertaking? Well, that's because it is.

"Massive Action Game" is being developed by Zipper Interactive and is looking to change the way online shooters are played. With 256 people being split up into 8-man squads, the action will rage across one world where only one side will eventually become victorious. What is not known is if these squads will be able to interact with one another, or if it will be instanced combat for territorial control.

Not much is known about MAG at the moment but we're guessing that much more information will be hitting the net in the next couple of days.

Until then, check out the pre-rendered trailer below.

IP@E3: $400 80 GB PS3 Unveiled.

Tuesday, July 15, 2008 by Kim

Sony let it drop today that anyone who buys a 40GB Playstation 3 between now and September is an idiot.

Hitting store shelves in two months is the brand new SKU from Sony which will be giving gamers all the love a PS3 has, for the low price of $400. That means if you were thinking about buying a Playstation 3 after hearing all the E3 news, you'll probably ask yourself why, and just wait for that instead.

The 80 GB PS3 will have all of the features and functionality of the current 40 GB model, but with double the storage. Sounds like a pretty firm deal.

IP@E3: Playstation 3 Has Some Hits

Tuesday, July 15, 2008 by Kim

"Quick! Hurry and buy original copies of the following games so you don't get stuck with the ugly red border cases!" It's what we were all thinking this afternoon when Sony dropped the news that they would be continuing the "Greatest Hits" line of titles on the Playstation 3. That means for the low price of $30 you will bag yourself hours of fun, excitement, and self worth.

The first titles available are:

- Resistance: Fall of Man
- Motorstorm
- Warhawk
- Call of Duty 3
- Fight Night
- Need For Speed: Carbon

That just leaves us wondering. Where is "Uncharted?"

IP@E3: People Buy Another Wii Game. Wii Sports Resort!

Tuesday, July 15, 2008 by Kim

It was E3 2006 when everyone first got a look at "Wii Sports." It was awesome, it was innovative, and there were huge lines to play it. Huge lines filled with really smelly kids. Well, it's 2008 and Nintendo has finally announced a follow-up that goes by the name of "Wii Sports Resort."

During the conference we were only shown a handful of the events included in "Resort," but it's looking pretty promising from what we've seen. A frisbee mini-game where you can frolick around with your dog. A jet-ski event that Reggie seems to think guys will love. Lastly, a sword fighting event where you beat one of your friends to a bloody pulp. Does that really happen at the beach?

Look for more information about "Wii Sports Resort" in the next few days, and watch Reggie beat down Cammie Dunaway in the vid below.

IP@E3: Really Nintendo? You Sure? Ok. Wii Music Announced!

Tuesday, July 15, 2008 by Kim

"Isn't it called Rock Band?"

Oh Nintendo, always trying to stick your fingers in someone's elses pie. It took all of Nintendo's brass (See what I did there) to ring in the announcement this morning with a honky tonk jam unlike any seen before. They played the theme to Super Mario Bros, everyone's jaws dropped, and everyone asked themselves, "Is this Nintendo's big E3 release?" It was one of the most horrifying things I ever witnessed, and I don't want to experience anything like it ever again.

Wii Music is Nintendo's take on the rhytym music genre. I'm not really sure what the point of it is, but from what was shown, it's to play music. What I really don't understand is the formula behind it. Guitar Hero and Rock Band, I understand. There's notes on the screen, you hit them and good things happen. In "Wii Music" you just sort of shake your Wii-motes to the beat, and that's about it. It's like playing "Guitar Hero" on infant setting, without any good music.

I know there are people everywhere that are going to love this. They're going to buy it the first day it comes out, play it until they're weak in the knees, and tell all of their aunties about it. Well, we hate to be the one to burst your bubble but "Wii Music" really sucks. Almost every reporter thought it, and I think Nintendo has to get up off those laurels before they break.

IP@E3: Nintendo Announces Animal Crossing: City Folk

Tuesday, July 15, 2008 by Kim

If it looks like a Gamecube game, and it sounds like a Gamecube game, then that can only mean one thing. It's a Nintendo Wii game! At Nintendo's Press Conference this morning, they let it drop that everyone's favorite furry adventure, "Animal Crossing," will be making appearance on the Wii. The title is "Animal Crossing: City Folk," and will give AC fans more of what they love. A town filled with other animals ready to fulfill every one of your darkest desires. Oh, maybe that's just how I play Animal Crossing.

While the formula is remaining unchanged, that doesn't mean that Nintendo won't be adding a ton of new features to the game. It will have an online auction site, and a chat room where players can partake in voice-chat. What about the kids Nintendo? What about the kids!?!

Animal Crossing creator, Katsuya Eguchi stated the following. "I wanted to create a software where players could feel like they are playing together if they are playing at different times" Then he rode off into the sunset with Tom Nook running after him.

Scope the newly released Animal Crossing: City Folk gameplay trailer below.

IP@E3: Top 3 Trailers From Day 1!

Monday, July 14, 2008 by Kim

The best thing about E3 is the fact that gaming fans are treated to more trailers than any other time of the year. In most cases, an impressive piece of media hits the net every few months giving all the kids something to talk about. That's different at E3. There are literally hundreds of trailers to choose from, and (sorry I have to quote a catchy t-shirt slogan here) if it's not done right, it should have never been done at all. No Fear.

The following list is our top 3 of Day 1. It took us all of 15 minutes to come up with this list, so you better damn well enjoy it. We didn't include any of the huge announcements like FFXIII for the 360 because there's a good chance you probably saw that. This is for the sloppy faced kids that are hocking their wares on the conference floors.

First up, is "Star Ocean: The Last Hope." We remember a time when any trailer for a JRPG was automatically the best thing shown, but times have changed. They're not really the draw they were 10 years ago, but that doesn't mean that this doesn't look good. It has cut-scenes, gameplay, and a pretty title graphic. We'll buy this.

I love Parkour, you love Parkour, let's make a game about Parkour. We're calling it right now, "Mirror's Edge" from EA is going to be Portal for the new year. Ok, that may be a big statement, but if EA does this thing right, it'll be huge. Big environments and puzzle solving seem to be pretty key in it, and the fighting looks fluid for a melee-based fps. Get out your glowsticks because the trailer has some funky trance music.

It doesn't have fancy 3D graphics or any waggle control, but Megaman 9 is old school. If there's anything we enjoy more than trance music, it's anything that's old school. I felt a little strange watching the trailer for Megaman 9. It was like I stumbled into 1989 and was writing for Nintendo Power. It was awesome and you can experience it too!

By the way, how come you never get those huge screen by screen maps in videogame mags anymore?

IP@E3: ID Software Partners With EA

Monday, July 14, 2008 by Kim

It was one of the biggest surprises from Day 1, and one that not many people saw coming. During the EA conference, John Carmack who is best known for co-founding "id Software," proclaimed that EA would be publishing id's upcoming fps, "Rage." Prior to this announcement, Activision, EA's #1 competitor served as the publisher of "id" properties.

While this announcement would have had people up in arms two years ago, in the new EA-friendly industry it seems like a good move. EA has impressed everyone with how they've treated the Valve partnership, and we have no doubt that we'll see the same with "id Software."

Not to be confused with a buyout, the partnership is exclusive to the release of "Rage," and no other titles are included within it. While Activision is still retaining the rights to publish Wolfenstein, that only makes us wonder what company will have their name stamped on the Doom 4 box?

Click below to see the trailer for Rage! Brought to you by id Software and EA Games.

IP@E3: Nintendo Set To Announce DS Slim?

Monday, July 14, 2008 by Kim

We called it about 3 months ago, and it looks like we were right. IGN's Matt Casamassina is reporting on a rumor that Nintendo may be announcing a slimmed down DS this week. Based on trusted sources, the slim DS will drop the GBA slot and would more than likely retail for sub-$100.

Also in the article is reports on a new peripheral being designed by Activision, that will give the Nintendo DS motion/tilt sensitivity.

Truth? We're not sure but there's a good chance we'll find out tomorrow at the Nintendo Press Conference. Honestly though, why'd they have to make it at 9:00 AM? Blah.

Check out the IGN article here.
