I'm both worried and excited about this game, but not surprised about the release date. Games take time, and for what appears to be a very (overly?) ambitious project, it's not surprising it's been pushed back.

Thankfully the game gods have already blessed us with quite a bounty this year, and thanks to the delays, next year is shaping up nicely too (This, P5, XCOM 2, etc.).

It Follows, on the other hand... it had some cool ideas, but I couldn't take the "sexually transmitted ghost" plot seriously. I still giggle every time I type "sexually transmitted ghost". That movie just did nothing for me.

Not saying your interpretation isn't valid, as it's the obvious one, but the director has pretty much said that the film isn't a metaphor for STDs.

My interpretation, and the one the director hinted at, is that it's about the psychological trauma that follows sexual abuse. Think about the recurring motif of the creature appearing as people's parents - especially that its "final form" is the protagonist's father. The film is about how the trauma following rape or abuse "follows" the person for the rest of their life, the characters' reactions to the abuse, and the ambiguous ending hints how that despite the fact that she's moved on and is with a person who accepts her for what she's been through and that it's a legitimately loving relationship, that there's still possibly a ghost, a hint of trauma that will never entirely disappear.

Plus that soundtrack by Disasterpiece - dang son. Synths for days.

Babadook was terrible, IMO.

@nickhead: I love DS2, and not at all trying to discredit or invalidate your opinion, but there's just so many design choices that are weaker in DS2 (the stuff @cav829said above, the way levels were laid out, the still-good but comparitively disappointing story) that DS1 seems like such a stronger game. But let me stress again, I still love DS2! For me it's DS1>Bloodborne>DS2>Demon's, which is weird I guess, considering Demon's was my first. I will say Maiden Astrea may still be my favorite boss fight, up there with Sif and Gwynn.

What were the complaints Dark Souls 2 received regarding the combat? Is it just that the animations were longer?

The main ones I'm aware of is animations (influenced by the stat), the terrible pivot/tracking of bosses, and the durability stuff.'

Edit: Also, parrying timing being influenced by a stat.

I think the main issues were the floaty movement and phantom hitboxes. Never really saw many complaints about the iframes/rolls being gradual and stat-based.

I'm not sure what you are talking about with parry timings being stat-based though.

Could be me not knowing what I'm talking about with that last one, I guess it's not stat based? I've put hundreds of hours into the Souls series and still don't understand most of the minutiae you can really dig into, but I was referring to how much more difficult timing parries was in DS2. If it's not influenced by adaptability, then I guess it's shield weight? Or something? Cause man, DS1 is parry and backstab city, DS2 I very rarely did either. I know the deal with backstabs, but forgive me if I spoke erroneously about the cause of parrying being so much more difficult.

Yeah, there are choices that will drastically affect how things play out. They're not always super obvious.

I've made a pact to not play anything until I finish Witcher (48 hours in!) but once I do, there's a bunch of stuff on my "shame list" or that I picked up on the Steam Sale. Next is to go back and finally finish Deus Ex HR, but after that, Telltale GoT, Life is Strange, Massive Chalice, The Banner Saga, and Pillars of Eternity.

I've also promised to play Divinity with the girlfriend, but a little worried about what'll do to our relationship...past attempts to play the game with my best friend have ended in, uh, tense moments (involving me continually doing stupid shit and getting instakilled and my friend rage-quitting repeatedly).
