Reviewing an Online Soccer Game

www.11x11.com

11x11 is an online soccer (football) game. From the get go, it sounds a lot like many other football management games that you have played. After signing up, you are asked to choose a nation. I chose Italy and I was given a 16 man squad comprised mostly of Italian players, except a Spanish striker and an American 2nd goalkeeper. It's a free to play game, but you can get special benefits by buying boosters. Each booster costs 1 euro. Soon afterwards I realized that the free to play game is really pathetic and it's nearly impossible to play a decent game without resorting to boosters.

I have played many free browser based online games, and almost all of them had paid options. However, no other game felt this rigged to me. You could play a decent game without paying a nickel, and that's the beauty of these games. But developers of 11x11 makes free player's life miserable. Totally unrealistic things happen in each game. The best players are too expensive and out of reach, while the free agents that you are offered has little skill. Also, almost in every game, 2/3 of your players get injured, and the only way to get them healed is to hire an expensive doctor or use boosters.

Also, when was the last time you saw a game where 4 of your players get red carded? and that, too, with getting 2 yellow cards each. Also, the first yellow card was on the 0 minute. Means, the player probably punched the refferee as soon as he hooted the whistle. LOL

So if you want to play a realistic browser based football simulation, stay miles away from 11x11. I know people who have invested considerable amount of their time to this game (including myself), but it's not really worth your time. There will be moments of glory and if you really, really give the game too much time, you can end up having some memorable experiences, but it's too difficult and chance driven to come by.

If you have the time and the money, get Championship Manager or Fifa Manager, or better get Fifa 11 or Pro-Evo 2011. Don't waste your Euros to buy boosters in 11x11.

That's the problem with all of those free to play webgames. They are designed from the ground up to immediately ask you for a credit card once the game is about to get fun.

Well, I haven't really played too many of these games, but I have a great time playing Ikariam...which is a free to play RTS. But here in 11x11, they seem to rub it in everytime you try to get something meaningful done. If the game was excellent, I wouldn't mind...but it's buggy.

You'll still be at great disadvantage against those who paid, though. And that's why browser games suck.

Well I don't think they totally suck, as they can help you pass some good time when you just  don't have access to a console or a gaming PC/laptop. However, I do agree that they can never be proper substitutes for real games. At least not with the current technology and the mindsets of the developers.

Btw read an article on kotaku that a command and conquer game is being made for facebook!

I reccomend you give Football Manager a go if you like football mangement games as it is perhaps the best management game out there as its by the old Championship Manager games before the Eidos/ SI Games split.

Yes Garfield i know that's the best one, but games like these are not really portable...I need a console or PC to play them. But these online games allow me to play it from my cell, at work (during leisurely times, and braks, of course :P) and also from home.
