SBE13: Limbo, and why it's overrated.

No one really pays attention to user reviews, and this isn't technically a review.

Anyways, Limbo has been getting amazing scores. I have played through a lot of the game and its fucking hard. I read some reviews of it before I got it though, and a lot of them are severly mistaken.

Take Brad's for example. His review was extremely well written, and he gave a perfect score. Now hold up: he gave this game 5/5 stars, like up there with mario galaxy 2 and SSFIV. The price alone should bring that score down, as most people report beating the game in 2 - 3 hours, and it costs 15 dollars. Also, Brad and IGN's review rave about how good the artstyle and atmosphere are, but to me they just seem lazy as shit.

No music is somehow "artsy" and having a weak low function character is "original." I forgot who said it but trying to be original has now become unoriginal, and by that I mean leaving the whole game to black and white with very little rendering is bullshit; sure it looks nice, but it isn't affective. It just comes across as lazy, and it stays in the front of my mind, while looking "nice" goes to the back.

More original, independent, and artsy games seem to come when they aren't trying to make these mega profits, and aren't lazy. Only 2 forms of jumping, no music, very little sound effects, and no use of color or HD and a game that lasts 3 hours with no narrative. Cheap, lazy and overrated. Don't get me wrong, this is a good game, its just dangerously overrated and most of the reviews did not catch it. Although gametrailers did, and i bet some others did too.

MAJOR EDIT PLEASE READ

No, this is not me changing my stance, just me clarifying.

Despite the fact that most people are exclusively addressing the price point factor, but I'm here to discuss what I really think: the game could have been 5 hours longer but my stance would be basically the same.

Limbo's puzzles are interesting, but they reuse a lot of the same tools. If every moment of the game was gold, if all of the puzzles weren't push a box or find a rope, this blog would not have been written.

In contrast, a similar priced, similarly rated game called Braid succeeds were Limbo falls short. Limbo is a great game, but to a game like Braid continues to surprise and challenge the player, were Limbo feels familiar from puzzle to puzzle. The different mechanics and unique puzzles spawned from time manipulation and precision platforming along with an amazing score and a unique (yes, B&W has been done before) artstyle.  Limbo had no gameplay, it was simple and fun, but easy and obvious. It sometimes relied on trial-and-error and other times resorted to just hiding a trap in the black and white (which again is trial and error).

Braid is priced - or overpriced - about the same as Limbo, but because Braid has a new experience at every turn, it feels like a much more worthwhile experience than a game that relies on some cheap platforming and a weak character.

Limbo is a great game. It belongs in the 4 - 3 star range.

Since screened.com hasnt done Avatar yet, I will (semi-spoilers)

It was fucking disgusting; a complete injustice to the source material.

Don't go see it, especially if you like the original show. Don't let this fucknut ruin your fond memories.

Seriously, how did the mind behind Sixth Sense and Unbreakable write, direct, and produce this?

SBE12: Fanboyism and you. (because you are a fanboy)

Who wants to admit to being a fanboy?

No one? Well thats kind of bullshit. And please take the following seriously.

Think about it, humans are wired to rank things in some sort of order, so go ahead and add some color to your giantbomb name.

No matter what you do, you will somehow like or prefer to play one company/system over another. Why the fuck do people get made fun of for being a fanboy? Ok, I can see a point when an individual will not even branch out to another system just because they will not give their mind room to change and grow.

But that isnt what people are criticizing with the word fanboy. I mean, seriously, this whole internet fanboyism BS is so unsupported with logic its kinda funny.

Now flamers, send me your love.

SBE11: Now rated world's worst blog.

TBH the title was just to attract viewers.

Anyways lets get to the point, which will basically just piss people off and get more people NOT on my side.

Gears of War 3: the game we all weren't expecting right?

So this is my realization to why.... this game is just soo uneeded.

Me playing Gears 1: "Oh, awesome executions, unique weapons, a thrilling multiplayer, and... an expectingly short campaign; who cares, this game is awesome!"
Gears 2: "Oh... oh, look, the lighting there is a.... a bit better. They still only have 2 colors on their pallete: black and white. The multiplayer still is good... thats good..... glad I rented it."
Gears 3 trailer: "So.... 4 players.... thats, thats just adding more, not fixing nor advancing.... this looks completely gay. Also, the story has become so predictable and- screw it."

Epic does not get the point- they are a great developer. I am not sure if they have some contract with MS and are forced to do this.

Shadow Complex wasn't as innovative as GeoW, but it was a great game. I see so much potential wasted with this game.

Ads on Jimmy Fallen make me facepalm even harder.

Hope your nice and mad. Yeah my name is red.

Weekly Wii #2

Sorry about being 1 day late, but I did not need 72 private messages reminding me (half of these contained the basic message "Ha Ha Ha look see! Wii has a stupid library and there are no games for you to play on for it" [sic]

I actually have exams this week, but here you go anyways:

This week's game is Endless Ocean: Blue World.

30 bucks (30 usd)

I will make this simple: Blue World is a fantastic sequel.

The locales, which look great when you're swimming through them, range from the tried-and-true oceans of the original to a South American river, the Arctic, and the Antarctic. Each area is enjoyable and rewarding to explore; you find new creatures, trinkets, and more wherever you go. Some areas are unfortunately limited, though. For example, the river is extremely linear. But this game is so relaxing after a very long exam, its relatively hard to explain.

I could go on, but this is no review. This game is too relaxing to divulge an extensive amount of words anyways. This game is obviously for a very specific audience, but me and my friend appreciated enough to get through the whole game smiling. A great Wii title for another section of players; its great to have this game as an option for the people who do want it.

For those questioning, rent it. Next Week, I do not know what I will be buying, so someone suggest something. If I don't PM you back, I already have the game. Please make the game the PM title so I do not have to go through millions of e-mails, and then explain why in the subject line.

Outside of the main quest, there are countless side quests to complete and treasures to collect. You can go off and use your Multisensor, which detects hidden items on the ocean floor, to find salvageable items that can be used to get Pelagos (Endless Ocean's form of currency) or complete quests, which also net you Pelagos. Another new tool, the Pulsar, is a gun that is used to heal wounded animals and calm agitated creatures. You can also take people on dive tours around different areas, searching for specific animals.

Weekly Wii #1 (hey xbox fanboys....)

Weekly Wii #1

So I am going to basically getting one wii game a week. Pretty much to show all the people who say "my wii is collecting dust " that they just A.) need to get a Wii first or B.) Need to know which game to get.

These will be short segments on my reasons why to

These are not reviews; rather, they are experiences with great Wii games you can enjoy too! I will buy one Wii title per week, including games that have already come out that I do not have yet. I will only go to an old title if no decent Wii title releases the week of.

So this week's game is Megaman 10.

Exclusive to Wii until March 31

1000 Wii Points (10 USD)

Have you ever played or heard about those golden classics? Have you ever wanted to try those out?!
What about those who used to play those classics?! Well hand CAPCOM 10 bucks then, because Megaman 10 is one of the best Wiiware titles out there. Its hard to expand on such a nostalgic and simply fun experience.

The quirky (awesome) cutscenes

From the music to the feel of the NES Wii control, from the cutscenes to those challenging segments, this game gives me goosebumps. Speaking of challenge: this game is not easy. In fact, all those who are really looking for a challenge on Wii, look no further, this ain't no cooking mama. If Wii was for kids, than megaman is on the wrong platform. You will die.

If you know who protoman is, than this game is already on your console (or should be). But he is an alternative to megaman, and IMO much more fun. The bosses are a little too goofy for my taste, not in the way that sheep man is, but in the way some are designed, like the water master variation. This is just a nitpick from a CAPCOMmunity boy.

So go buy this game if you are even remotely interested in platformers, nintendo, and/or nostalgia.
