every game requires 8gb of RAM

This is absolutely not true at all. It's only recent that games started using 4GB of ram, most uses 2GB. 8GB is usually what people recommend being the top amount of ram you stick in a computer if games is the most taxing you're going to use on your system.

also, most games on PC only use either 2 or 4 gigs of ram. For something that's made with gaming as it's main purpose, 8 gig would almost be too much. 4GB for games and 1-2 for system-level stuff would be more then enough.

It was working fine yesterday and I upgraded on day of release but today I haven't been able to play more then 15 minutes of Diablo 3 before the game crashes. But I played many hours yesterday without problems. Also, no other problems or issues. so.. No? I have no clue.

It does seem to be the trendsetter at least.

I wouldn't waste money on a 640, wait for something better on sale, or buy a used one.

This. I will also add that I recently got a Zotac and I'm really happy with the card. I'll definitely go for them next time I need an upgrade.
