I'd absolutely be interested in joining this. I've just gotten back into Arena so still building a collection but I should be able to scrounge a standard deck together.

This is very interesting news, super excited to see how some of this new content and collaborations play out over the next several months. I will say that one of the things that I like the most about this new direction is how it doesn't seem to be overly competitive with the formats that a lot of other streamers and even former GB personalities have been using. With so many streaming things now following that old GB formula of "we are just playing some games, come hang out" it really helps that on top of leaning more into the QL coverage format that GB is famous for, the Premium and feature content seems to involve a bit more planning and creativity at a conceptual level.

I see many rightfully arguing that the value justification with so much content and support options is tough to keep up with. While I can totally understand this perspective, for me personally; with the sheer amount of content that is out there the idea that I'd "need" GB to provide a value to watched hours of content for my premium subscription to be worth it just feels entirely out of touch with why I even support GB (or others) in the modern times. If I was looking to watch a person online play through a video game, any video game, that is their. For free, all over the internet. I'm supporting who these people are, what they've built, the communities they cultivate and the values they choose to bring to these spaces.

Ultimately I think it's why I'm most intrigued to see what happens with some of these new ideas and the overall new approach to content. Sure we may still have some staples, but we'll get to see some fresh new feature ideas pitched and ran by in some instances former GB personalities, as well as other content creators. This shared exposure is a very good look, and is totally in spirit with something I am happy to be supporting.

Nothing but happy to see these three still working together and wish them the best of luck with the venture.. Literally the only bummer is realizing that all the cool duders from GB going off and doing so many awesome things means the sea of content is exceptionally large to keep up with. But backlogs exist to be picked at, and I'm looking forward to keeping up with Nextlander as much as I can.

Yeah gotta say I'm with Retris here on this debate. Hendry looks like he might of gained actual weight during the pandemic that wasn't muscle related and decided to use that to his advantage. Not unlike how Chris Hero looked when he got larger/worked out for a time as well. I think for me the idea of what really sells it as "wow you really did a lot of this" for Cage is just how every single muscle group in his body exploded out. As Retris notes, Hendry went from looking like a bulky/heavier guy to looking like very muscular stocky guy. Brian Cage went from looking about as average in body stature as Eddie Edwards or any other atypical indy mid size wrestler to looking like Arnold at his first body building competition.

As for the shots themselves though, I don't know. I do think hampering on it as much as they have probably isn't a great look for Cage, but I do see the intent they are trying. The "I took a pipe bomb style shot at you" to amp up peoples promo's. But not everybody should be delivering that type of stuff, like it'd feel different if it was Eddie Kingston talking that to Cage but the regular use of it in promo's especially for Hangman feels a little forced and crass I agree.

I obviously wish nothing but the best for Brad, Alex, and Vinny. I'm sure I'm not alone in saying all three staff have been responsible for amazing content and some really great memories. There is honestly far too many to list and I can already see my watch count for Best of GB increasing. I appreciate Jeff adding that he's staying on, as with the remaining staff. Even still I don't hesitate to continue to support the vision of what GB is.

Also, my is this a lot to process. Thanks for everything you all have poured into the site though, seriously!

@noobsauce Not sure if it's entirely "shade" as much as it is just something that didn't work for some folks? I know that there is some weird, "MK can't be this" gatekeeping going on with this that is bullshit for sure. I feel the need to clarify my stance a little because of that.

It's entirely fine that they made an MK movie with this modern movie template, and that maybe people find it to be a very fun entry into the franchise. I feel like it's less of a question of whether or not what they are doing works and more for some of us how creatively uninteresting it is. If you don't watch a lot of the modern superhero action fare, I'm sure it probably comes across far less saturated. But I look to people praising the Kano role as an example of the disconnect for me. The moment he showed up on screen I uttered out loud "Are we really going to Loki Kano here?" Sure enough? Yuuuup.

To be clear, there is nothing wrong with a fun rompy action adventure with some Sam Raimi style over the top gore as an MK movie. The audience that is being served with this are absolutely in the right to enjoy it to their hearts content. But there is also nothing wrong with people being critical of that on the grounds that every other movie coming out now is following this template/formula, and because of that are a little bummed. Like one of the things I see posted in this thread several times, and have seen on the web is this idea that some people are upset that the movie wasn't A+ script writing and Oscar material.

Which like baffles me because that isn't at all why I was disappointed with the film. It wasn't campy enough, it wasn't stylish enough, it tried to have way more substance than I felt an MK movie needed. The last thing I want is some prestige arthouse classic out of this franchise. It's just if your even remotely keeping up with where the genre of movie this MK is making is at, it's not doing anything particular fresh at all. It's another one of those. If you haven't seen enough of that, and the MK skins are enough to push that home for you? Great, have fun.

Yeah I also wasn't impressed. I can appreciate people trying to modernize MK, but throwing the "standard action super hero template" over top of MK skins doesn't remotely work at all for me. The entire movie felt devoid of any notable style, something the 95 original movie had in spades. The score alone is evidence, sounding like any other high fantasy/action adventure fare. Don't even get me started on the overuse of needing in universe justification for anything and everything. It just felt like a by the numbers MK movie made by a board of executives.

It's actually kinda wild how exceptionally inoffensive, generic, and unmemorable it is despite many of the games prominent fatalities being featured in combat. Generally the action has to become so contrived so as to set up the fatality, and the camera/pacing doesn't give any of those moments a sense of place that they would otherwise deserve. There was just so many odd decisions they made though. When I had heard campy going in I had assumed perhaps with some self awareness, but it's more campy in the way old cartoons are campy. When did MK characters turn into horror movie monsters? There is just so many examples where they tonally use these characters as if their abilities/powers are stand ins for archetypes in other genres that this movie is intentionally aping. It just didn't really ever feel like Mortal Kombat, being honest.

@hansolol Yeah I was aware sorry if the wording of my post was indicating that they themselves were making those choices. Obviously the readers are influenced by the thoughts of Bryan/Dave and the rest of the crew. It's still nice to finally start seeing fresh new faces get some needed recognition though. But yeah your right, I don't get why Dave deals with the trolls, boredom probably.
