The Starcraft II beta has been going on for some time now. And for those who've been monitoring it's progress, it's been getting alot of updates to keep the game balanced. The latest occured just today, and improves some Terran and Protoss units, but that's not what im writing about. I'm writing about the strange phenomenon of me being able to place within the top 3 of the bronze league prior to the game taking a planned hiatus, and not even being within the top 25 now that the beta is openly available to play again. What gives? Sure I enjoy the new polish to some of the units, and the UI, but seriously? Do I suck that bad? Nevertheless it really doesn't matter how many times I get my ass kicked I just get back up for more. I must be part masochist. Either that or Blizzard has really hit the mark for the new Starcraft and im just falling back into the addiction that the original Starcraft caused when it was first released. Either way I foresee many sleepness nights.
The Marvel vs Capcom series is one of my favorite fighting series i've ever played. Im super stoked to see how things shape up this time around. Maybe after this we'll see a new Darkstalkers!
In my opinion, Z-Axis movement that relies on a directional pad w/o true 8-way directional movement sounds way too cumbersome to be fun. Not to mention standing still while in first-person is just an old and convoluted way to play a game. The game could have really used the versatility of the nunchuk.
I have to agree the art design seems pretty piss poor. Lot's of incessantly bright colors with low poly counts. The color seems to contrast way too high in order to provide any kind of ambience that the games are known for. Not to mention the fact that the voice, and general narrative behind the game seems ill-chosen. For a heroine that has spent her time alone on all her missions and issued a strong sense of self-confidence and direction this whole mopey, naive image does nothing for me. Quite honestly im becoming less and less interested in this game by the day. I'll probably just buy the Prime Trilogy on release date just to remind myself how superior a direction the games had when Retro was at the helm.
Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree, Agalloch, Riverside, Wintersun, Dark Tranquillity, Ihsahn, Pink Floyd, Rush, Irepress, Pelican.....quite a few more but these have been on my hit list for a couple months now.
Thanks for the overview, but please go back through and give a Protoss and Zerg impressions cause those are my preferred races to play. And of those of you who are playing the game can you please post your pc specs and what settings you are running the game on. And, if you are so inclined, the average FPS.
http://www.guildwars2.com/en/world/ghosts-of-ascalon/ New info on the previously known as Fall of Ascalon book. The release is sometime in summer 2010, and there is an exhaustive FAQ as part of the page that details alot of other information from story to why Jeff Grubb is co-author.
