I took off a few days of work to watch the last few rounds, and I'll be watching what I can from work as well. I hope they have the newbie stream back in full force this year.
I was listening to the Furi Quicklook on the way to work. Brad and Dan were talking about the prices for lunch in San Francisco and Dan said something like "I could get ten sandwiches for that in New York." Combine that with the Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games Quicklook on the east coast that Dan guested in, and I think him heading to the GBEast is a pretty good possibility. I suppose we'll know after tomorrow's podcast.
@thesecondagent: He gets to run a site, rather than just write for one. It's a hell of an opportunity, and it sounds like he's leaving GB on good terms.
Oof, this is hitting me harder than I thought it would. Not only is this a bit disappointing, but completely out of the blue. Maybe some folks are looking back at some of the last videos/podcasts he was in and are noticing warning signs that are only now apparent with hindsight, but I was definitely caught off-guard at the end of the stream.
Patrick leaving was also pretty disappointing, but it felt expected. Guy had been out in Chicago by himself for a while, so when the announcement was made I wasn't surprised. Austin had only been here a little over a year, and it felt like he was really settling in. The dynamic between him and Vinny/Alex/Jeff, setting up the Guest Contributor feature...seemed like he was only getting started at GB.
Hope he is both happy and successful at whatever he does next.
As far as I can tell from the E3 bits I've been watching today, Austin has been super professional and didn't let his performance slip at all.
There was a period after Patrick left and Vinny moving to New York where I wasen't enjoying the sites content as much as before and actually cancelled my yearly subscription. But alot of that changed with the hiring of you Austin and it made me enjoy the content alot more, specifically Giant Bomb East and it made me subscribe again.
So this is a real bummer :-), but I am happy for you Austin and I wish you good luck with whatever your plans are going forward.
While I never canceled my subscription, I definitely felt that downbeat and Austin filling out the NY office really grabbed my interest again. I'm seriously gutted, but glad I'll still be able to catch Friends at the Table at least.
It's starting to feel like the folks with the most interesting opinions don't want to stick around GB :(
