I like where this thread is headed

I've been looking into picking up a Banjo as of late and was wondering if anyone here had any recommendations for a good starter banjo at a reasonable price (no more than a grand or so, $500 would probably be a sweetspot). I want something that will be quality made and give a really good sound. I've played guitar for over ten years and I'm looking to make a jump into another stringed instrument. Any tips/advice would be much appreciated!
