I enjoyed the day 1 - 4 podcasts, even with the "Best World" debacle, I enjoy the stuff the staff puts out during the christmas period because it gives me something to escape to when the trappings of the season become too much.
However, the day 5 one just left me feeling a bit empty by the end of it, mainly due to the reasons a lot of commenters in this thread have already described. It just wasn't that fun to listen to and had a lot of horse trading going on which just made it feel like most spots in the list were positioned begrudgingly. Especially with some games that made it on there due to sheer belligerence and fillibustering.
As others have said, this could have been a celebration of games in 2017, but it felt like most of the time was spent looking through the games and exaggerating flaws without seeing the big picture. The fact that Horizon Zero Dawn, a video game this website gave 5 stars to earlier this year, was thrown under a bus so quickly without much debate made me very sad, especially when there was a lot of empty conversation around Dream Daddy.
I came away impressed by Dan Ryckert, he seemed to be the most calm and collected person on that podcast, listening to people, entering arguments where appropriate and making reasonable comments.
