@acidbrandon18: Yea all the trailers, dev diaries and stuff they've been releasing over the past few months peg the game as a re-built first game. Not a full origin story for faith but close. THe GB crew usually seems to not read/watch trailers and info about games, they just assume much of their stuff. Which is fine, who cares, they are getting older and who can blame them if they don't want to crawl the internet for accurate information about everything all the time.
@ntm: Yea I wish the crew had the time to actually do a few reviews for each game, instead of getting only 1 of their review perspective. I like hearing about their opinions on the bombcast but I'd love to see that written out as a proper review format for brad for this game for example, and others for other games.
@drowsy: Yea, when you don't like a game all of it's flaws tend to be the only thing you can see, they add up. I agree with almost everything jeff says technically... but I just like the game more.. like for no real reason that I can give that has a counter to all the things he points out. That's just how people's tastes work out I guess.
The crew often talks about there not being middle tier games these days, and I'd class this game as exactly that, a middle tier game in terms not of budget but of actual realized potential and execution. It doesn't "nail" anything... but I don't need a game to nail things to have fun with it, frankly that's sort of a sad position to be in, to require something to be 'the best' in order to enjoy yourself. I know jeff isn't like that, and I'm trying not to imply he is, he plays plenty of games that he describes as not good games but that he enjoys deeply (or for lengths of time). Like marvel heroes, or the many clickers.
