Worst Video Game Characters of All-Time

From characters we all hate to those we just wish would be removed from their respective franchise or series, here is a complete list of the WORST video game characters of all-time. For this list, only characters who originate or mostly appear in video games will count.

Ranks

When ranking a character based on “character“ and personality and how well-written they are, I like to scale them on a A+ to F scale. Of course, F signifies a terrible or unoriginal character, while A+ signifies a very original and well-written character. Anyone C or lower signifies that the character isn’t that good, while anyone C+ or higher signifies a good or average character.

List items

  • Infinite is the secondary antagonist of Sonic Forces. He is a jackal and crybaby who lost against Shadow and now literally hates everyone. Yeah...

Infinite is by far one of the worst video game villains of all time due to the fact that he’s a crybaby who thinks he’s all tough and cool and better than everyone else. This makes him easily unlikeable over almost every other Sonic character in existence.

There is nothing to like about Infinite besides his outward appearance, or outfit. Other than that, I cannot stand him and his role in Sonic Forces is one of the main reasons I hate the game. He loses, he cries and complains and wants to destroy everyone. Somehow survives the events of Sonic Forces for the plot. He’s basically a much more hated version of Shadow the Hedgehog, and as someone who doesn’t like Shadow, he makes the black Hedgehog look superior.

  • I genuinely cannot stand this woman, nor does she bring me the pleasure of welcoming me to Whiterun like most other characters in the city.

Olfina is very rude and harsh towards any player who chooses the male gender, and acts like a feminist but shows no signs of being a true activists for women and their rights.

  • Hate this guy, it’s just simple as that. Idolaf is a stuck-up jerk who seems to harass the player if they don’t agree with his ways or even agree that the Battle-Born family are good people.

  • I have no problem with Flutterscotches in general, it’s just the boring and bland WHITE Flutterscotch. This little piñata is easily one of the most forgettable in the Viva Piñata franchise, and serves as my least favorite overall.

However, their cute little faces don’t deserve the F rank.

  • Both annoying and pointless, Nazeem is known to be one, if not, then the worst Skyrim character of all-time. He’s basically a stuck-up individual who believes himself to be of higher status that anyone.

There is a reason why people fans of the games despise him, and the origin of several Skyrim-related memes.

  • Mephiles may seem like a cool and mysterious character, but he’s literally just a fragment of Solaris. There is nothing I like about him, nor would I like to see him return. He basically spends the whole game trying to trick everyone and kills Sonic last minute? Oh, okay, then.

  • As much as I love SEGA Heroes, Dremagen has to be one of my least favorite villains altogether. She has little-to-no originality, but her outfit and appearance are kind of intimidating. We only ever got to see her at the end of SEGA Heroes and during special boss events, but that’s it. And her always saying “fools” was just cringe, no?

  • Basically Luigi's evil counterpart who only mainly appears in spin-offs and crossovers, Waluigi is a pointless addition to the Mario franchise and serves as one of the most annoying video game characters.

It’s hard to find what I like about him, but every time I do all I see is an annoying counterpart screaming “WAL-LU-EEE-GEE” and it scares me.

  • Unlike Professor Pester, there is nothing to like or even appreciate about Dastardos. Of course, Professor Pester is very annoying in Trouble in Paradise, but we’re basing it off of the term “character” here.

Dastardos is easily the worst and least like-able character in the Viva Piñata franchise. He may not be as annoying as Professor Pester, but his voice is irritating and he’s nothing to get excited about. However, I would love to own his scarf.

  • Being very naive, it’s hard to like Silver in a sense that his quick judgement just leads to chaos.

However, he is very caring and kind to his friends, but this doesn’t dismiss the fact that he was the overall worst character in Sonic the Hedgehog (2006). Silver’s terrible portrayal and annoying catchphrases and lines in his first video game nearly made me hate him. I’ll give him credit though, his attire and appearance are neat.

  • Although a good villain overall, Professor Pester is every player’s worst nightmare. Imagine spending hours or even weeks on a game and you have it just the way you want it...then you’re introduced to this guy. Basically his role in the games is to enter your garden unannounced (and can sometimes be missed) and whacks open your piñata with the most value. You can easily get rid of him with the Captain’s Cutlass, however, or bribe him with 500 coins or more.

But in the sequel Trouble in Paradise, Professor Pester cannot be blocked from the garden, so you’ll have to keep your eyes peeled or place a bunch of decoy piñata for him to smash. Again, he’s very irritating, but a great villain.

  • Oh, boy...let’s not get started with this guy. Anyways, Stanley Poole serves as the main antagonist of the level Dionysus Park in BioShock 2, and easily my least favorite character in the series. He basically betrayed Sofia Lamb and stole all her money (even though she kind of deserved it), and sold her daughter away to the orphanage. Overall, he is the one that started the game and made it come together. However, I always have to kill him in the game because of the bad things he had done.

  • In the beginning of the franchise, Tails served as the lovable sidekick to Sonic. But that’s no longer the case. As of 2013, he tags along with the main protagonist and does nothing, and has become the literal definition of a damsel in distress, even more than Amy at this point - no, even more than Princess Peach from the Mario franchise.

Let’s all take a moment to remember how cowardly Tails had become in Sonic Forces. Hopefully, the new 2022 Sonic game fixes Tails’ character from a cowardly and damsel sidekick into a loveable Buddy once more.
