    This game is a masterpiece. An absolute goddamn masterpiece. Excellent puzzles. Excellent story. Beautiful environments. It's a shame it wasn't released a few months earlier so that more people could play it in time for GoTY recognition.

      @sixpin:

      Does that mean this game also has you opening drawers and picking up bottles of hair spray and putting them back down again?

      Also, do all of these people comparing this game to Gone Home realize what utter irredeemable dogshit that "game" was?

        Whee! It's next gen but there's still a shitty gray filter over everything. You couldn't make the skyline during that synchronization look more drab if you tried.

          Wow. That sure was half a billion bucks well spent. $166.67 Million per star, by my calculations.

          2014 might be the worst year in the history of gaming. Nothing but shitty bust after shitty bust.

          Where is all of this money going anyways? I saw the quick look and I can't see what is so expensive.

          A washed up guy who hasn't impacted the industry positively for almost two decades is working on another game.

          Yeah, that's newsworthy.

          I remember when Crytek was a successful PC developer with an excellent reputation for making games that were technical marvels and that also featured impressive emergent gameplay. But that wasn't good enough for them, so they decided to make mediocre generic console games instead. Chalk up another studio that abandoned the PC for "more money" only to not actually make more money.

            Ten years ago I would have found this interesting. But now Bioware is a pale shadow of what it used to be. There's no reason to get excited about anything that they do anymore.

            I wish that people would stop blaming copyright law. Copyright law isn't the problem. Youtube is the problem. They refuse to defend the fair use rights of their content generators and users. It's hard to think of another corporation nowadays that shows more contempt and disregard for the satisfaction of its customers. They are the modern equivalent of a shitty cable company that can treat you any way that they want because they have a monopoly.

            I believe that this is why I cannot post a review for this game yet(?) It was released on Steam in April (but the Risen 2 main page says that it has yet to be released).

            The comparisons between Mass Effect and Lost or Sopranos has some big flaws. The biggest being that the endings of those series weren't the product of grand vision by the writers. They were what they came up with after it was evident that the series no longer had the ratings to continue for another season. The writers for a TV series never know how long it's going to last.

            Mass Effect, on the other hand, was a planned trilogy from the beginning, and it wouldn't surprise me to find out that the ending was written early on (kind of like the Harry Potter series). With Lost, you simply had a series of unresolved mysteries that were purposely strung out, almost certainly without any real vision behind them. Ditto for Flash Forward and, probably, the new series Awake.
