The mouse over menu bar is frustrating and nauseating from animation flashing.
- When I pull my cursor away from the menu to an item in the newly visible sub-menu, if I just barely clip the corner of the next item in the top menu, the sub menu animates to the next menu item, invalidating the location I was seeking to click, and confusing me as to why the screen just blinked at me (the transition animation).
- When I mouse over an item, and then move to another item, the transition animation is jarring, and makes me feel like I've done something wrong.
Warning: flashing animation:
This should probably be broken into two separate animations to be less rough:
1. Animating the initial sub menu opening
2. Switching between different sub menus without flashing the screen.
Dimming the page behind the menus should happen with some graduation, and should be retained between top-level item changes so as not to flash or flicker the screen. You might use a dark layer in-between the menu and page content that you change the opacity gradually, and only if the mouse has exited the menu system by some distance.
Do you have plans to redirect permalinks from the old site design to the new design's?
For example, I thought "oh, I'll just change 'www' to 'beta' and I'll be able to look at this in the new site… Oh no… 404"
I wish the forums had a “search this thread function” or infinite scrolling like Discourse based forums. I hate posting redundant content, especially if the thought has already been responded to or noted by staff for improvement.
Pagination is a large part of my block to diving into the forums more, and honestly it feels like I’m missing out on that experience.
If I could make quick clips or excerpts of a premium-only video to show to a non-subscriber friend, that would be cool.
I'd be totally fine with making this limited to X number of clips shared per month/week, Y number of minutes to clip per time period, or tying it to some community/wiki measure to encourage (friendly) participation.
@justin258: It's a 2015 MacBook Pro, Intel Core i7, 2.2GHz, 16 GB of RAM.
I don't know if this is due to beta macOS, or beta Safari 12 issue. Firefox has pretty smooth animations, but the CPU load seems high, although I'll admit I've never looked much at my CPU usage on other sites. CNN actually does about as much load.
