I stopped commenting on GB content years ago as you will always get attacked from one side of the argument or the other, regardless of whether you are being supportive or critical. Honestly, I just can't be bothered dealing with it these days.
That said, I think it's worth noting how poor I feel GOTY has become. This new format and the selected "categories" were just plain awful in my personal opinion. GOTY used to be something that I'd look forward to, but over the last couple of years it's become about as entertaining as watching paint dry. I'm glad some people seem to enjoy the new format and I know the video editors put a lot of hard work into making the content, but honestly, I feel the feature has lost it's heart and soul.
I realised a long time ago that I have very different tastes to the GB staff and stopped caring about the choices they made in GOTY, but I always enjoyed the discussion and the process of reaching a decision. I don't use this site as a way of informing myself about which games I should try or avoid. I use other sources for that, but I do enjoy the "entertainment factor" of the content they produce. It's the reason I've bought a premium membership for years now. Mass Alex and Crime Crew were fantastic content this year, but GOTY was always the Crowning Jewel. It's just a shame it's lost it's sparkle.
Abby hit the nail on the head, they totally bottled it for their GOTY pick. That's not to say it's not a great game, but the arguments in it's favour just seemed weak to me. I was left feeling unconvinced that it was what anyone really wanted, but more that it was the "safe" choice.
Kudos to Abby though, she really grew into her GB shoes this year and killed it.
I dunno, calling your customers uneducated and telling them not to buy the game doesn't seem like the best marketing in the world. Neither does having 3 release dates, an unfinished and buggy mess at launch or having to put the game on sale at up to 50% off 3 weeks after release because sales are 1/2 of those for BF:1. Call me Mr Picky, but I'd call that a hot mess and I really like the game. lol
Really bummed that Kingdom Come: Deliverance got no coverage on GB this year. It's a fantastic, if slightly flawed game.
Also, no Battlefield V in Hottest Mess. Really !?. With everything that has gone on with that game since the release trailer was first shown, I would have thought it would be a lock right behind Fallout 76( and I enjoy playing it ) .
As a VERY proud Scotsman and Brit, I can't tell you how pissed off I was to hear the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland referred to as England. But then I remembered that Sarah Palin thought Africa was a Country, rather than a Continent and it all fell into place. No maps in the US education system, I guess. I'm not even going to touch on how much you misunderstand the concept of the Commonwealth or British overseas territories.
Sorry to all of my American cousins who do actually know the world's geography outside of the US's borders (no offence folks), but holy shit. You want to piss of Scot's, Welsh or Ulstermen, just call them English.
