This is great. DK64 is like I remember, except that I didn't remember the draw distance problems.

Bulma gets a lot better whenever the series is between fights, she's fun in this set of episodes.

Having just watched ahead to the next set of five:

So in the Kai cut do they never actually explain that the Namekian dragon balls can only bring back one person per wish or did I just miss that? I swear I remember that being a difference between the Earth and Namek balls from watching DBZ as a kid...

That was a plot point in Kai like 10 episodes back, re: why they could only wish Piccolo back to life instead of everyone stuck on King Kai's planet.

@captaininvictus: Yah surprisingly a good mix of questions without any cringe at all.

a lot of people in the room left as soon as Q&A started too

In my experience this is the case across panels at PAX, probably partly because of the risky business of potential cringe, but also because with the main part of the show over it's a nice socially acceptable chance to line up for the next panel.

As for this Abby thing, it's amazing how the YouTube comments for even this video are still harping on about 30 minutes of the Game of the Year discussion four months ago. If they're such big fans they'd know that weird filibusters about personal picks happen every year and are a normal part of the process.

Re: the start of the Buu arc - I think they'll enjoy it actually, they've loved the B-plot character stuff even more than the main storyline so far.

With regards to Dragonball Z Abridged:

Those of you recommending Abridged are encouraged to go back and watch the first ten or so episodes as though you aren't already invested in the product. I happen to believe the most recent thirty or so episodes are genuinely entertaining but the earlier stuff had a weird amateur South Park vibe that I don't think really works anymore in 2018. I honestly wish they'd go back and just redo all those episodes to 'modernize' them and make them presentable to a fresh audience but at this point I can't imagine a world where they spend the resources on that.

Yeah they've really improved over time and the early episodes had some really good jokes too (like everything involving Nappa) but when I think about the 'amateur South Park' parts you mentioned with the "you're a woman go in the kitchen lol!!!!"-style jokes that also happen, I can't imagine Jeff and Dan enjoying it without a lot of cringing. Again, it's been vastly improving in production quality and joke standards over time but the start might be rough to get through.

I watched dbz back when I was a preteen and thought freetza was a dude the whole time I watched it (I think cause she looked/sounded like a dude to me so I just assumed). Thought that about freetza until I was like 20 and ended up on some dbz Wiki somehow and learned freetza was actually a lady.

Frieza is not a lady

No but Freetza is.

Yeah I quite like 18 as a character, actually I'd be happy to watch a spinoff series about 16, 17 and 18 just going on road trips forever.

I was mostly thinking about Bulma, Chi-Chi and Videl, who I also think is a fun character generally but definitely has a lot of those same traits in terms of having to be treated with kid gloves because she blows up over minor things etc. Actually, I was watching Kai recently and there was a whole episode about Videl and Chi-Chi meeting and clashing because they're of such a similar personality type, so I'd imagine that it's deliberate in that case.

Man, I doubt Chi-Chi is many people's fave but it's tough to hear her get roasted so harshly by Jeff. Esp. since her best days as a character (such as they were) are behind her before DBZ starts.

Also I thought it was funny that Jeff is noticing the classic Toriyama signature of cool hats.

Dragon Ball Z has a general problem where all the women gradually turn into needy super-nagging wife characters fixated on minor issues while everyone else is trying to save the universe, to the point where it makes me wonder about the state of the author's marriage.

Chi-Chi was fun in early Dragon Ball as a child but loses most of her positive traits by the start of Z. Bulma always had whininess as part of her character but in the original Dragon Ball arcs she was competent or relevant a good chunk of the time so it was just comic relief when she was being needy.
