Top 10 Games of 2013

It's that time of year again; the time where we all decide to quantify all the video games we've played these past twelve months into a numbered list! As usual, I often have trouble ranking things into a list but I've given it my best shot.

List items

  • I'm huge a fan of turn based strategy games and Fire Emblem Awakening did not disappoint. Great visuals, simple controls, and quick pacing make this the best strategy game of 2013!

  • Although these games are a bit too far on the easy side, I still found myself enjoying the new 3D world of Pokemon X/Y. They've made a lot of underlying changes to how the games work that lay a great groundwork to build future games on in the series. Overall, not the best Pokemon games ever made but a good start to a new generation.

  • This game has devoured my time like few others have this year. The Castlevania-esque gameplay mixed with the randomized generation system have kept me coming back for more over and over!

  • It seems a shoe-in but this years sequel to the original Link to the Past succeeds not only at tugging at the nostalgia centers of your brain, but also at being a damn good game in it's own right.

  • Despite all the flaws this game faced at launch, I still found myself sinking dozens of hours into this game. It certainly helps that Creative Assembly has done a fairly good job of patching a lot of the issues out and tweaking the gameplay. Still doesn't quite top the original Rome as my favorite in the franchise, but it's still a pretty good game.

  • A massively addicting survival sim game with a wonderful Tim Burton-esque art style and a crafting system that kept me playing to see what kinds of contraptions I could build out in the wilds.

  • This game has a button that makes you slide across a room on your kness and then cut a man in half with a space-katana.

  • Yeah yeah, I know. I played a wrestling video game this year. But I gotta say, there's some good stuff here. The game is probably the least broken Yukes production yet, and the 30 Years of Wrestlemania mode is jam-packed with nostalgic memories of the days when wrestling was watchable. That said, PLEASE use a new engine in 2k15 guys, seriously.

  • No better game to chill out with while listening to podcasts!

  • I'm so bad at the game people literally think I'm trolling, but I can give it credit for being the best Dota-type game out there!
