The only game I can recall quitting near the end was FF7. It's been forever, but I think they forced you to split up the team near the last boss. So if you played the same three characters the entire game the rest of your party would be underleveled. Grinding is never fun.
@ikabubu: It seems like sometimes devs have two hats full of buzzwords and things that are popular. "Let's see... This time we got CCG aaaand oooh FPS!"
I always like to see new things, but like most everyone here, this is the first time I've heard of this.
"There was a time when day 1 dlc wasn't a thing and games came out as a mostly full package before launch, but unfortunately gaming has changed"
As always there are two sides to the coin. Developers don't get to work on the game all the way up to the release date. If they need to press a disk and work on some more content for the window between that and the launch that's now an option. Of course there will be negative examples, but it's not all bad.
I'm not going to boycott a game just because they have loot boxes. People can spend their money how they want, some of them have more money than time, etc, etc.
My fist experience with boxes was Mass Effect 3 multiplayer. I didn't purchase a single one and still had a ton of fun. As long as you can grind out currency or the contents of the box are inconsequential to competetive gameplay, it doesn't bother me.
Interesting perspectives! I usually do maybe once or twice a month. Similar to others, when I was younger I would repeatedly ask myself right before bed if I was dreaming. I stopped doing that, but it stuck with me.
My wife doesn't even remember her dreams at night which I think is odd.
@justin258: Holy moly, I completely forgot Halo had those card pack things. I love Halo, but completely bounced off of 5 and part of it was because of that.
I'm not sure if I'm old school or just frugal, but I've never bought any microtransactions. I have purcahsed DLC, but I'd rather make a one-time purchase and have access to everything. Having matchmaking manipulate users and encourage them to purchase items is pretty gross. Hopefully most players will see through it.
My favorite achievements are the ones that push you to do something out of the ordinary in games that I have finished, but want an excuse to keep playing in the world.
Other than that I prefer to turn off notifications because I find it takes me out of the experience while I'm trying to watch a cutscene and the notification pops up.
