The problem isn't the game, the problem is it's Patrick and Ryan.
Yeah this too. I don't want to listen to Patrick talk for 40+ hours. I am not a fan of him on bombcasts and quicklooks. He always comes off as trying too hard.
My initial thoughts are that there are already plenty of book review and suggestion and commentary sites out there and the world doesn't need yet another one in the saturated market, but I suppose a lot of people may have said the same about another gaming site about three years ago . . . and here we are.
That said, I might have some interest if there were some barrier to entry. Maybe require a subscription. Or maybe require a subscription unrelated to the WM sites. Even a couple bucks a year. Anything to weed out . . . you know, what you would typically expect from gaming and movie websites. Otherwise it could be pretty ugly. Even then, however, there's a limited amount to talk about when so many people are likely reading so many different things.
Yeah that's usually the reaction I have to most suggestions of new WM websites. But in this case, I feel like it fills a niche not addressed by current Whiskey sites, and it's a topic many of the current editors have an interest in. I like hearing their discussions about books, and finding new books to read is very difficult for me.
Don't you think the problem would just kind of work itself out? The people you're referring to probably wouldn't have any interest in books I would think.
Sounds good, it could be community managed like AV is now.
I think that would work so long as there was some kind of regular editorial content. Maybe a weekly podcast or video where different editors from the Whiskey sites would discuss their favorite books or what they're currently reading.
I think weirdly chauvinistic things like this actually belittle the struggles of women dealing with breast cancer. It draws attention away from the seriousness of the issue. I feel the same way about the "I <3 Boobs!" T-shirts. It's just a way for guys to get away with saying things that would normally be considered disrespectful of women while simultaneously making them feeling like they're helping something, when in reality they're turning the very serious issue of a deadly disease into a juvenile joke.
Well if the awards go through the same process they have in years past, the game will have to win a platform specific award in order to win the overall GOTY.
So really it all comes down to what they give the multi platform award to.
In other words, it will be Gears vs Uncharted vs multi platform winner.
That's ridiculous. Remember last year when the game that won Best Xbox only game wasn't even in the top 5 for overall GOTY? Same thing happened in '09. It means it will be: Uncharted 3 vs Best Multiplatform Game. Gears won't even enter into it.
Gears really should enter into it though. As an overall package, it's hard to beat.
You might be right, I suspect there won't be a lot of love for it in the GOTY discussions.
If it needs video content what about Whiskey Media book club, all they need is to round up 3 or 4 people and get them to read a book over a few weeks and have weekly or fortnightly discussions on camera. It does not need to be the same staff each book so it won't need to much of a time sink for anybody. The rest of the site could be community driven, but it would definitely use it.
