Remember a long time ago when someone said that they were thinking about making a Whiskey Media book website? Whatever happened to that? Of all the suggestions people constantly make for a new Whiskey site (OMG OMG OMG WHat ABOUT a Website about WEBSITES!!) this one actually seems like a good idea. I really enjoyed the discussions about books during Octoberkast.

Would you be interested in a site about books? I certainly would. I don't often read, but I have started spending more time reading. My biggest problem seems to be finding new books that would interest me. The Tested guys (mostly Will) had some great suggestions. I think even a semi-regular book podcast would be awesome.

So I wonder if they're still planning on making this site. I sure hope so!

That's ridiculous. Remember last year when the game that won Best Xbox only game wasn't even in the top 5 for overall GOTY? Same thing happened in '09. It means it will be: Uncharted 3 vs Best Multiplatform Game. Gears won't even enter into it.

My guesses:

Brad will insist that L.A. Noire is the true game of the year and dismiss all of its faults as trivial. Then he'll settle for Uncharted, Batman, or Portal 2.

Ryan will love Assassin's Creed, but it will be too much of the same. I really don't know what he will end up on. He may end up fighting for Portal 2 but more likely for Uncharted 3.

Jeff will fight Brad against L.A. Noire. He will say that he wishes MK could win but will realize the others won't agree on it. He'll probably say that Portal 2 just doesn't have enough to it (eg: in the end all you do is solve puzzles) He may end up coming out on the side of Batman, but in a twist, he may strike it for being too much of the same.

Vinny is always the wild card for me. He'll probably bring up Dark Souls in conversation but quickly be shot down by both Jeff and Ryan. Then he'll pick Skyrim or The Witcher 2 as his personal favorite, but owing to flaws he'll be ok with it not winning. He'll probably support whatever both Ryan and Jeff end up agreeing on.

I guess Skyrim could be a dark horse candidate, but I suspect Jeff will have little love for it, and will instead go for a game with more action. Ryan will also not like it because of the poor melee combat.

It will come down to a three-way tie between Portal 2, Uncharted, and Batman. From there, it's anyone's ballgame though I suspect Uncharted will not win because although they won't admit it, they don't want to give two GOTYs to Nathan Drake. It's really too early to tell even this much, but this is what I can come up with based on past conversations and their personalities.

@Emilio: What are you using to do that? can you pull down the console in the game?

@Mcfart: I agree that that's a problem. If you can't afford to upgrade just for games then it's not a viable option. But remember that PCs are used for a lot of things. So if I'm the kind of person that wants a desktop for school/work (I am) I can spend a few hundred dollars more to make it game-worthy. That's exactly what I do. The extra money I spend on graphics cards and other upgrades is roughly analogous to what I would pay for a console. But as you say: not everyone wants to do this. That's why it's becoming more niche. But it's not dying, and that's an important distinction.

It's not just Jeff. Ryan also has no interest in Dark Souls. Even Vinny only sort of likes it.

Vinny at least gets it and if he only sort of liked it he'd probably have stopped playing by now. I just don't think getting angry or disappointed at them not liking a game is silly.

well except when they all snuffed Nier :(

Remember how long Vinny spent playing Dragon Age 2? He definitely barely liked that game. He's an obsessive completionist. That's what keeps him going in a lot of games. I just wouldn't expect him to be fighting too hard for Dark Souls is all I'm saying. But I also don't get upset at their choices generally.
