I'm not good at Haiku's .. so here's a poem instead:

Never ending work .. at 4 in the night,
Weekend's gone .. and still no sight
of a break, a holiday, a John Labatt's blue,
wasting some noobs on Bad company 2.

This assignment's so long and hard,
says the voice inside my head ..
And right after that, pops up the words,
That's what she said !

A moment to laugh,  at my own stupid joke,
as I code the next line, with an strTok() .. what ??
I's 4.20 now, and I just wasted some time,
writing this stupid blog, to share online ..

With all my fellow duders, and some dudettes too,
Damn .. I still crave for that John Labatt's blue.
So till next time, when I write another drunken rhyme,
To all my friend,s good night, Gang sign <>, peace out, Crime !

I have nod idea why I wrote that last line .. but hey, it rhymes.

Take care peoplesss ..

@UnderGround: That games looks hell awesome !

@delski: Do you have any idea how to develop for the iPhone from a windows machine ? I have heard something about this software called "Hackintosh" but never got around to using it. I have an iPod touch and was wondering if I could put stuff on it like I can on an Android. My Prof was telling me about how variables are acquired or released in Objective C, which is the most confusing part but it kinda bounced off the top of my head. Why does Apple have to be so closed out from everything else .. uhhh .. it drives me crazy sometimes !!!

Also .. if you have any links to tutorials about Objective C .. or any pointers about iPhone development, leave a link here and I'll post it on the main page.

@armaan8014: I am not entirely sure what's the exact degree at NID, possibly Bachelors in Design. The one at Pasadena would give you a Masters in Design, plus it's in the top 50 design schools in the world or something, so it's absolutely something you'd aim for.

I say getting into NID is tough only because there are around a total of 26 seats or so every year. But I'm sure there are other great universities which offer courses in Design. The courses mainly focus on how you go about creating new products that are aesthetic as well as usable (think Apple). I know a couple of friends managed to get into design schools in the US after having done engineering, but they actually did a ton of design related stuff when in Univ. I wish I could name drop a few more univ related to design but I am an engineer, so I'm not sure :P But I know they are there ..

And you are absolutely right about doing your undegrads in India. Saves a ton of money .. and you need to save your students loan for when you would apply for you Masters. Also, if you plan to change universities, make sure that the univ you go to is recognised by the univ you are planning to get into for your Masters. Maybe drop their student services a mail confirming that your undergrad degree is recognised. You wouldn't want to slog for 4 yrs only to find you can't do you grads at the school you really wanted to .

Also as far as backup goes, doing a degree in Design opens you up not just to Game design but a bunch of other stuff (like designing the next apple product, a new automobile, the next PS3 controller) .. it's definitely a very interesting field. Super creative .. but you NEED to be passionate about it and not just do it for the money.

I actually did my undergrads in India before I shifted to Canada (and now the states). Have a few arch friends back there so I totally know what you mean.

Architecture's a really hard field, and I don't see it contributing to a career in games at all. And I know it feels like a big deal to drop a year of education to shift into another stream, but in the long run, that one year wouldn't matter .. as long as you end up doing what you really enjoy. If you're really into arts, I'd highly recommend you try out for colleges like National Institute of Design (which is super tough to get into .. but totally worth it), or something like DJ univ in Coimbatore maybe ? (Not totally sure if it has design courses other than fashion design .. but you get the gist) .

Also, to make it into games, you'd probably want to shift to someplace like California, cuz that's a whole hub for budding artists and companies looking for those artists. It's been around 3-4 years since I have been away from India but when I graduated, I didn't find any game companies that were hiring there. You can probably start thinking of giving your GRE in your 3rd year or so .. and then trying to a good design institute in the states or Canada. I know one of my friends is in Art Centre College of Design in Pasadena, CA (incidentally in the same city as Giantbomb's previous office), that's very well reputed. I know USC has a pretty good design program too.

In any case switching streams is always a bit stressful, so here's all the luck that you make it through in one piece :)

Just finished writing an algorithm that figures out how to play the Dots game with you. Link for the uninitiated ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dots_and_Boxes

Right now, it works for a simple 3 X 3 grid, but damn, it's satisfying to see the computer go toe to toe with you in a game and know that it's your code that runs in the background ! I am working on a GUI now .. maybe polish it up a bit, and who knows, maybe I'll put it  up here and let you fine gentlemen and ladies tell me how much the game sucks :P (it was a more of an extension to an AI assignment honestly).

In any case, that was how the last 3 days of my life were spent ! Looking forward to the weekend, though there is still work to be had. Wish I had my PS with me so I could play some god damn Medal of Honor (in spite of the reviews .. I guess I still want to play it. Nostalgia .. I presume). But oh well .. I guess I'll just have to make do with playing J'eanne D'arc on my PSP.

So quick question for the masses, one of the major complaints against Medal of honor (amongst a gazillion other ones), is that it is supremely derivative in it's content. But is being derivative necessarily a bad thing ? What were a few super derivative games that you have played and enjoyed ? For me, the first game that comes to mind would be Darksiders. Really enjoyed it .. despite it being a "dark" Zelda clone.

Peace !

@FunExplosions: Honestly, I am pretty new to C# too. But I totally see what you mean. C# is mostly used for building Windows apps, hence the extraneous code. In case you want just a simple program to run (like a console app), without all the other files that Visual studio throws at you, just click on File > Project and select Windows Console application. (Screenshot below). Though there could be nothing better than learning C++ .. it's a great language to learn !

EDIT: Does anyone have any idea on how I can insert a image like the one below and continue wrapping my text around it ? Can't seem to figure out a way to do that ..
