So during the homepage livestream, Jeff mentioned that our (or perhaps only my?) beloved star-rating cartoons that go along with reviews will be going away. Y'know, the things where an illustrated Jeff is about to ignite a stick of TNT in his mouth, or where Super Saiyan Vinny is bursting with power. The reason for this seems to be there are more potential reviewers now, and will be even more in the future, and creating new cartoons in the same style isn't possible (the artist is no longer available, it seems to me).
Well, I don't know about you guys, but this bums me out. Maybe the guys have something else in mind—some other flavor to go with reviews—but I didn't hear anything mentioned, so I'm creating this topic to see what everyone else thinks, and if anyone has any ideas for what they'd like to see done. Like I said, it's possible the Giant Bomb guys have something else already in mind, and it could be awesome. But out of fear that reviews will instead have just stars and nothing else, I am over-reacting to something considered trivial by everyone else and making this thread.
What about, instead of person-specific cartoons, there was just one all-encompassing illustration set for the entire staff to use? And, just like the Bombcast theme and background, the cartoons could change every year to reflect the current state of Giant Bomb and their community. I imagine, for this year at least, something where a 4 star review would be accompanied with a picture of Abraham Lincoln smoking a cigar and holding a rifle, and a 5 star review would feature a picture of Cool Baby flying off into space much like Mario does in the Galaxy games. A 1 star review would include a picture of Matt Kessler, looking absolutely normal. Er, "normal."
If it's a matter of paying someone to make cartoons, maybe it could be a community contest?
