Yes, that is a very, very, stupid statue. That is now getting far more attention than it deserves.
I'm sorry, but I just don't agree with this article. And this is coming from a person that thinks women that game are treated wrongly in a lot of ways which is holding back the maturity of the industry.
I might not know much about women actually in the gaming industry, but I know many woman that play games, and I feel there are far more ingrained and simply unreasonable walls in just general gaming culture that should be concentrated on before some stupid statue that really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. Did I mention it's a statue of dismembered torso? Yeh, it's really fucking stupid regardless.
I truly do wish the best for woman in the gaming industry, but the problem is so deep in gaming itself, which leaks over into the industry and vice-versa. Even if something happened today and every woman had a 100% guarantee of no bias in the industry, they still can't even go home and play the games they make without being judged.
Why not organize rallies of women to take over online games for a certain period of time? The fact that every time my girlfriend gets on CoD, is already uncomfortable because she's the only girl in the entire lobby, and is instantly told to "Shut up lil boy" or "wow bitch like you know Call of Duty" the second she opens her mouth is absolutely disgusting.
Organize sessions where there's only one MAN in the lobby. Show them ladies are here to fucking stay, and deserve every bit of respect as a man pulling the left trigger and holding the right. And that a stupid fucking statue that questionably objectifies parts of the female body covered in blood (which the horror genre in any form has been exploiting, and still does, for YEARS mind you. Patrick should know that.) isn't going to put a dent in that.
I'm not saying it should just be excused and that nothing should've be said, but this is too much for something that doesn't deserve the attention, and there are far larger problems at hand that we could be solving that could prevent something like this from happening again in the future on a more important level.
