Top 10 Games of 2011 That I Liked

A lot of games that I didn't get around to playing this year. My XBOX was pretty much broken for a couple months and I switched to working overnight so my schedule changed as well. Games also have a tendency to release during the last 3 months of the year causing a huge amount of games to be out at a busy time of year when I don't have as much free time to get through them all. I also fell out of renting games from a store because of stupid late fees and high rental costs. Tried to buy most games I was interested in but waiting for good sales takes a little while. I also didn't finish a lot of these games but I plan on getting to that in 2012.

  • Didn't really plan on getting this for a while but a lot of people around me seemed excited for it and Target gave out a 10.00 gift card when you bought it there, so I gave it a shot. I've played Fallout 3 and Oblivion and enjoyed them but they never were my favorites like some other RPGs.

This game does a really great job of letting you play how you want to play. You can customize your appearance and weapon/magic load outs as well as plunge into combat or let someone else do it for you.

It's also one of the best games at making you feel like you are actually in a world. It's a big open world game with lots of towns, people, animals, caves, shrines, giants, and bandits. It's also a really nice looking game with some great lighting, weather, and really cool looking locations that remind me of the Lord of the Rings movies which is not a bad thing at all. It also has some of the best music in any game. I definitely want to pick this soundtrack up.

Didn't have many problems with it until after the second patch but it is still worth playing despite the problems.

I've spent a lot of time with this game and will continue to do so throughout 2012.

  • I really like the futuristic look of this game. Some great lighting and design choices. Another game that lets you play how you want to play. Talk, sneak, or kill your way to your objective with a cool skill system and some good weapons. Ammo can be a little scarce at times but I generally play as someone who kills everyone and everything in my way. The boss fights are pretty awful but are a small speed bump on the path to the end. Haven't finished the game yet but it's certainly one of the coolest of the year. Another game that has some really excellent music as well.

  • I loved the first game and played through it several times and even played all the DLC. Played through this game twice pretty much back to back and then traded it in. I liked the changes they made to the combat in this game by making it faster and more actiony but a lot of the enemies were too easy and were often killed by your companions before you got a chance to get close to them. I actually enjoyed the story quite a bit even though it gets a little extreme near the end and characters are just going nuts trying to get their side to win.

Really liked most of the new characters in this game and found myself wishing I could somehow have them all with me at the same time. There was a couple occasions throughout the game where I thought to myself "Oh, Wow!" when certain things happened in the plot. Didn't expect the game to go in that direction and it was pretty cool to see them take risks like that. Game definitely could have used some more variety to its locations but overall I enjoyed my experience with it.

  • I haven't finished this game yet. The characters just aren't as well used in this game as they were in Uncharted 2. Was really hoping my favorite character from 2, Chloe, would be in this more but she is just kind of there and not really used well. There are some cool action sequences but they aren't as fun or cool as the previous game's were. This is still one of the best action/adventure games though and it's gorgeous to look at. It's just a little bit of a let down after the amazing cinematic experience that was Uncharted 2.

  • I really enjoyed Gears of War 2 and all its awesome action set pieces. This game looks really nice and handles well during its action bits, but it just wasn't as exciting and grand as the stuff that happened in Gears 2. I never really got invested in the characters so any kind of wrap up with them didn't do much for me. I did really like how much brighter this game was and the variety of different locations that it took you to. If you like action games this is definitely worth checking out.

  • Really want to play more of this. I bought the season pass before I even owned the game so when I got it, I had a lot of DLC in addition to the lengthy main campaign. The faces in this game look pretty great and are used to help you do your interrogations and see who is lying, telling the truth, and holding something back. Looks really neat and the ability to have your partner drive everywhere is a nice addition since driving is usually one of the worst things about games like this. Really want to get back into this game but it's kind of daunting how much I have to do in it. Need to take a vacation and catch up on some games like this.

  • I really enjoyed Arkham Asylum but couldn't beat The Joker at the end which made me like the game less in the end. I borrowed this for a couple of days and got part way though it before having to quit for a while. Batman is one of my favorite comic book heroes so I am definitely eager to get back into this. Lots of great villains and some of the best melee combat in any game.

  • Great music, art style, and a well voiced narrator who does an excellent job telling the story as you are playing it. A lot of people brag about the story in this game, but I don't remember it being anything outstanding. Really liked how the world popped in as you progressed forward. That was a pretty neat way of showing you what you have and haven't explored. Some pretty neat weapons too. Want to go back and do a new game plus.

  • Didn't play at all. Feel pretty confident in saying this would have made my top 10 though. Giant Bomb had so much love for this game that it infectiously spread to me. Waiting for a price drop and then I'll pick it up.
