@reisz: Thanks for your detailed advice. It fascinates me to hear all these stories about how the "Atari/NES" generation is growing up and still finding ways to enjoy this fun hobby. Like I said in my previous post, definitely excited to start gaming with my kids. That retro collection will be getting started soon enough!

Not sure if this idea has been mentioned before, but Mario Kart is in dire need of some revamping and I can't think of a better way to do it than this:

!!! SUPER SMASH BROS. KART !!!

Discuss.

@joshwent: I can't even imagine what "gaming" is going to be like 18 years from now. I fear it'll be a world full of restrictive DRM and pay2win titles.

These are great posts, thanks guys! Allow me to use The Last of Us as a recent example: I think it's the perfect game for someone in my shoes. I love the way to slowly pulls you in but maintains enough tension and excitement to satisfy a 1-2 hour playing session. These are the types of games I am into now (I think Naughty Dog has the right idea about our generation). In contrast I recently started up Witcher 2 and said to myself "Holy crap this game is amazing, but dear god this feels like one hell of a challenge I don't think my life can take right now!" I shelved it for now... might fire it up again if I get some time off. Lastly, after spending a day at E3, I loved what Bungie showed from Destiny. My hope is that it's less Borderlands 2 and more a Journey-like multiplayer experience that can be enjoyed at a slower pace. I'm fascinated by the capabilities of anonymous multiplayer so I hope both Destiny and The Division find a way to balance that for us gamer parents.

As for the gaming with my kids, I can't wait! We finally moved into a place that has room for me to start a retro gaming collection. My kids will be taught by the classics first and then we get into the Lego, Rayman, and 3D Mario games. ; )

Greetings fellow Bombers! I've been lurking around for a while now but finally decided to post some thoughts. In the last couple of years I had two kids, a toddler and a 10 month old, and just reached my mid-30s. I've been a pretty avid gamer since the original NES days and ever since life took over I've gone from averaging 4-6 hours a day of gaming to just under 2 hours. Anyhow, as life starts to take its toll on my most beloved hobby I start to wonder what other dads (or moms) in my shoes handle the slump? As most of us may know the key demographic for games these days is 18-34 years old.

- It's getting to be impossible to invest time into more than 1 game at a time.

- Games that take more then 20+ hours are becoming less appealing due to the time sink. Skyrim was my last "long game".

- I'm finding that my taste in games is changing. I enjoy the experience more than the challenge.

- Lastly, I usually end up buying all the current consoles, but this nextgen I can only see myself with one of them and my gaming PC. Currently I've decided to stick with the PS4/PC combo.

Anyhow, just wanted to share these changes and experiences with you guys. Hate to sound old, but I currently look back at the gaming I did before I started a family and it kind of makes me sad that I will never get to that level of enthusiasm again. Thoughts?

@willza92: I'm also excited to see what Respawn can do with Source on a nextgen console. I wouldn't be surprised is this was a much newer build given to them by Valve for nextgen. It would basically give us a taste of what Half-Life 3, Left 4 Dead 3, and Portal 3 would look like.

It's great to see the PC getting more attention nextgen. If this trend continues I'll be making the PS4 my home console of choice for non-PC titles and exclusives. Microsoft just doesn't seem to understand the core gamer at all anymore.

Legion is arguably one of the best characters. I'd love to see IT return.
