Sucks to hear someone ailing, especially someone as kind and cool as Jason. Sending my most major positive vibes to him, and if you see this Jason we love you and keep trucking!

Welcome to the Max Fun network.

wasn't until I saw this that I felt like I really understood what they are chasing and... yeah, these are honestly the vibes I'm getting.

I will try on the new shows here and there, I like to think I have diverse interests, but I have very little time for video content these days and the time I do have I spend watching more game-centric stuff, so unless they start pushing more of these into audio only podcast feeds I will probably start to fall off before my premium renewal comes back around.

EDIT: also in the face of all the pessimism this is honestly all I could think of. please excuse the photoshop skills

in principle this sounds very exciting and cool, it lets them work with lots of people who have left the corporate games industry, or people who work mostly independently now -- they could try and pull in the kinds of people in games media who have made guest appearances on the podcast or e3 shows for years. When these ideas were first floating around a month ago I was imagining more contemperary creators like streamers but if they make the process of doing these limited shows attractive & lucrative enough to creators (and I'd imagine they have to), they could get a lot of cool people through the revolving doors.

basically what i'm saying is there's gonna be a michael pachter show

V3 is the canonical one in my head, but I dig the groove of GOTY-V4 so I voted for that one. V2 is also a very strong contender

I am not envious of anyone trying to figure out what is next for a site like giant bomb. The games media space at this point is so incredibly crowded... traditional coverage sites, youtube video essays, twitch streamers, patreons, lets plays, on and on. The landscape is so different now from 13, hell even 5 years ago. GB always felt secure in the face of all that since they were talented, established voices with (usually) enough support from a parent company to do the kind of stuff they wanted to do, whether that was the more traditional coverage or the wackier stuff. But without those voices and with new expectations from a different company, I can't imagine trying to steer a ship like a website with this with all its history towards some new horizons.

Some people are saying that the spirit of GB can't be captured again, but I am here for it as long as they are trying, incorporating/highlighting personalities that have the same energy that GB always has had in the formats they have succeeded at, instead of trying to... I don't know, create some collective of twitch streamers or something?

i am having difficulty even processing this. I am not sure how to put into words what I want to say... maybe it will be easier later. it is tough not to want more details, reasons, even though I know I shouldn't feel entitled to any of that.

I will probably be watching a lot of old videos in the coming weeks, and wherever GB lands, I hope it brings the same joy, laughter, and comfort that the crew has for the last 13+ (jesus...) years.

someone started a twitter thread full of highlights over the years. it has already made me cry laughing... twice. maybe i am just feeling a little emotional today... as self centered as it sounds, this almost feels like grief. I am going to try to turn this feeling into gratitude, because it's what every member of GB deserves. thank you so much for being who you are and doing what you've done, all of you!

I got a 4K HDR tv a couple of years ago but am on a 1440p monitor for playing on PC.

I'm ok having a lower res, smaller (~20 inch) monitor for playing on PC, it means I have to spend less on graphics cards. I'll probably keep it until HDR monitors become more widespread and affordable, then I might upgrade in size and to a G/V sync monitor too.

I have gotten really into using my freezer for leftovers during lockdown, I will generally make double or more what I will eat in a meal or two so I can freeze the rest for down the road. I'll also have things from other kitchen projects in there that I don't use all at once like stock (which I make rarely), tehini sauce (I make a couple quarts every few months), etc. I've even taken to freezing halves of bread loaves that I know I won't eat before they stale, and my girlfriend has started baking loaf cakes, slicing them, then freezing the slices individually. They heat up really well in the toaster oven.

But those don't really seem in the spirit of the question... the amount of food I buy that goes straight into my freezer is <10% of what I buy. Mostly ice cream, frozen fruit for smoothies, and some premade things like tamales.

If you are truly starting from zero, I don't think it's necessarily the best option for learning the fundamentals. I remember the original game having some lessons about those things (fingering, chord shapes, etc.) but there are other resources that will probably get you started more quickly. However if you have even just a little experience, which it sounds like you do, it's a great way to make practicing & learning songs more enjoyable. The dynamic difficulty stuff can be a little annoying -- generally I would like to start with all the notes and then tone it down if I need to, but it makes you work your way up through progressive difficulty as you play -- but for some people it might be really constructive. Another great thing is being able to easily play around with guitar tones & effects.

Another thing I will say is that getting the adapter to work on PC can be really annoying. After I rebuilt my PC in 2016 it stopped working and I was never able to fix it so I stopped playing the game. I think I heard recently that a powered usb 2.0 hub can fix the issue but I have been too lazy to try it.
