I love me some DA:O, but a game like Divinity: Original Sin 2 might have been a better RPG choice for this kind of series. The surprisingly funny writing, fantastic voice acting and endlessly thrilling turn-based encounters of Larian's game arguably make D:OS2 more video-friendly than Bioware's comparatively slow-moving, grim-faced fantasy epic.
As someone who had and continues to have zero investment in the franchise as a whole, Hitman Absolution was one of my most memorable video game experiences in recent years. At the time I described the game as an "inner Skyrim", a densely layered universe you could get lost in for weeks and months. HITMAN 1-2's emphasis on mechanical interactivity and grim slapstick comedy is not what I wanted from the series going forward, but I can certainly admire it from a distance.
I had more or less the same increasingly frustrated reaction as Alex did to Sovereign's nonsensical exposition when I played the game for the first time in 2007. It was clear from this dialogue alone that Bioware had absolutely no idea what they wanted to do with the main plot. I said so at the time, and at the end of the trilogy other people suddenly started to agree (I for one liked the third game and didn't get particularly worked up about the ending).
