My Top 10 Mega Man Games (Original Series Only)

I was asked recently how I thought the new Mega Man games stacked up to the old ones. Since I'm only a fan of the original series games, so here's a list of my favorites and a little bit why I like (or dislike) said game. Here goes:

10. Mega Man 8

Something just doesn't feel......right about this one. I'll let this dopey picture express my concerns.

9. Mega Man 7

This game can be sorta fun at times, but my absolutely BIGGEST gripe about this game is... why does Mega Man have to be so far over to the right on the screen? Why program our minds to know that he's in a certain spot for years, then fucking change it? Not only that, it's too far to the edge and I always find myself getting into danger because of it. I can't find any decent pictures that depict this, but when I played it, I definitely noticed. Oh, and yeah, the levels aren't that good.

8. Mega Man 6

There was just nothing remarkable about this game. Not the music. Not the bosses. Not only these things but why do I have to use rush to enhance Mega Man's abilities. Having to go into the menu every time, watch practically a cutscene of him transforming, then come out to use it for 1/2 a second, then go back in the menu and switch... ugh so tedious. Definitely the black sheep of the 8-bit series to me.

7. Mega Man 3

Now before you throw me to the sharks, let me explain myself. I love this game. Great bosses, music, and level design.... up until you get to Wily's Castle. I've never beaten this game before because of this level in question. You are expected to fly across a large open gap on rush jet. That's not the problem at all. The problem lies in... it uses all your rush jet power, and if you die just after (which I do), it checkpoints BEFORE that part and you have no power to progress. You have to commit suicide and start the level over. What bullshit.

6. Mega Man 5

Now here we go. Now we're getting into the ones I really like. Lots of people disreguard 5 as a classic game, but it had excellent level design and one of the best Wily castles in the classic series history. Coupled with it being a bit longer than other MM games and just being fun, we have a winner here.

5. Mega Man 9

We all know how surprised I was at this game coming out at all and blah blah, but I'm going to focus on what I like about it now. Absolutely epic music (yeah I have to mention that about most Mega Man games because that's my favorite part of them), some great level design, and a great way to show that these type of games (classic platformers) can still be made by the right group of people (Hello, Sonic Team?). It was great fan service, but not quite as original and exciting to play as..

4. Mega Man 10

This game, despite being a "rehash" as some would say of a concept and series coined 20+ years ago, felt extremely fresh and extremely unique. The levels had elements never before seen in any other Mega Man game, the music had a very unique and eerie presence to it for the most part (which I love), and it had bar none the best Wily castle stages in any Mega Man game. Mega Man 11 please.

3. Mega Man 1

Oh man, do I love the music in this one. Absolutely classic, possibly the best in the entire series for me (well.... it's close). The levels are all excellent, albeit a bit devious, especially since I have yet to beat this one (I can't beat the final stage!) I will one day beat this game, dammit.

2. Mega Man 4

The mus.....ok you get the picture. This was the Mega Man game that I actually owned when I was a little kid. I remember asking my mom for (the number one game on this list) for my birthday, and I recieved this game instead. I wasn't disappointed at all though, as I played this one over and over. I just loved the look and feel of the levels in this one, and thought the plot twist at the end was creative considering these games really didn't have a story back then.

1. Mega Man 2

Surprised at my number 1? Nah, you shouldn't be. This game nailed it all and is the defining game of the series, and one that I still go back to all the time to this day. I did a "Legends" video on it, beaten it dozens of times on hard (or difficult as it's called in game, lolz), and I just have a blast playing it. OHYEAHANDTHEMUSICISGOODKTHXBAI!

There you have it.
Bye bye!
