I think overall Atmosphir is pretty good. There are definitely a lot of things that need work, but I have confidence that it'll be pulled off well once it's officially released.
I feel you. That's what happened to me up until about six months ago when I seemed to get into gaming again. I find that just reading about games or talking about them with other people really makes you want to play again.
They are different games entirely. They are sequels only by name.
In terms of not knowing where to go or what to do next, FC2 marks your objectives plainly on your map. When you finish all of your missions, it shows where you can get new ones. So it's really a non-issue.
Your claims about Crysis' performance are flat-out wrong. I've put no more than $1,200 (probably less) into my PC and I can run Crysis and Warhead at 1280x1024 maxed with 2x anti-aliasing and it's silky-smooth.
